and Schumacher! What a surprise!!!! I'm the last guy to say that results = doping but his performance in this year's Tour defied reason. Anybody could have called that!

Exactly ... no need to disparage the Austrians (yet)

i felt the same about schumacher and ricco as soon as i saw the stages in question. are you kidding me? both left an obvious whiff of uncertainty in the air. hopefully something will put some fear into these guys. nothing has so far, but one can hope.

par contre Sastre only really rode 2 hard stages in the race: Alpe D'heuz and the final TT. I would bet against Sastre getting busted

Agreed with CPP.....Sastre has demonstrated his ability in years prior unlike these jokers who showed up and smoked everyone without ever sniffing the front in prior years.

Both Lance and Lemond agreed on one thing: You don't just turn into a Tour contender or even stage winner overnight.

I'm a lot less leery of those guys who consistently move up the rankings or perform the same year over year as opposed to the guys who come from no-where to win their first or even second career stage win on cycling's toughest stage, much less compete for the podium.

Keep 'em coming.

The worst thing would be, at this point, if they weren't catching anybody.

And Kohl IS Austrian.

+1 Although I have to admit he didn't wear yellow. I'll be sad if the rumors are true about Spartacus. If so, then Le Mond will be shown absolutely right and teams will need to rething external testing regimens. Actually he's already been shown right by Frank Schleck.

No Spartacus:

AFLD done with Tour testing – no more cases

The French anti-doping agency AFLD has concluded its re-testing of the 2008 Tour de France samples. Bernhard Kohl was the last to be caught and no other cases have been found, L'Equipe reported.

There were a total of 30 samples re-tested specifically for CERA, after suspicious blood values had been observed.

I get the feeling there are more they know about, but are not releasing the names for some reason. They just announced that no more positives were found. I'm suspect of the entire CSC team now. Maybe Cervelo knew something we don't and got out before the S hit the Fan. It's all so tiring. Why oh why do they keep doing it?

Why oh why do they keep doing it?

Because they are ultra-competitive risk takers who convince themselves that they are always competing against others who do it as well. And it used to be pretty easy to break the rules if you followed very strict dosage regimens. And had access to motorcycles with ice coolers full of blood...

They're done . . . until they re-test the re-tests!

Kohl has also said that he would reveal his suppliers and enablers ("Hintermaenner") at an "appropriate time", which I take to mean after he has cut a plea deal with the cycling federations.

His exoneration of the team, though, seems to be heartfelt and complete. "There was no systematic doping at Gerolsteiner."

In the meantime, the German networks ZDF and ARD have announced they will not provide live coverage of the Tour.

Oh, and the 2009 edition of the Tour of Germany has been cancelled altogether . . .
