Is there an appreciable aerodynamic difference in typical 32 spoke 3 cross lacing on a front wheel compared to a 28 or 24 spoke radial laced wheel?

Is that the general purpose why we see so many radial laced front road wheels?

Just wondering.

I would certainly think that the reasons are for aerodynamics and weight savings (due to less spokes). Certainly it is not for wheel strength. If one uses radial lacing on some hubs, the warranty is voided. Radial lacing does not translate to strong and/or durable wheels.

It should be understood that I know very little about wheels, and less than zero about wheel building. I just found out that bicycle wheels are round, for some reason.

Going in circles and getting absolutely no where,

a radially laced wheel can, of course, be very durable if the flange thingys don't have too many holes. generally not to be recommended on most 32 holed hubs, but not necessarily to be avoided at all costs. good with bladed spokes on less holey whees and hubs.
