Has anyone seen these?

With dark evening commuting not far off, seems like a cool idea. However, I wonder if these lights could attract so much attention that a drowsy motorist could subconsciously drive into you!

3 AA batteries in each one? That's 6 oz. total weight for each Hokey Spoke, according to their website, which would be 170 g, or 3/8 lb.

I think I'll stick with my free wheel reflectors and save the batteries for my tail lights.

Of course, the reflectors don't look nearly as cool!

there's a smaller led one that you put in place of the valve cap. I've never bought it though. Maybe I could...

There are Hokey Spokes videos on YouTube. Here is one:

I have no idea how many units are on each wheel in this video.

I got the much less expensive Spokelit but have not used it yet. I wish the video showed how it looks at a higher rate of speed.

They need sufficient/ specific type of vibration to light up. I tried one with my road bike and it only lit up when I hit a bump or on very rough surface etc. Probably work good with knobby tires.

I had the same experience and returned them. One worked and the other one did not.

I get them confused with these:

I actually bought 2 sets. All 4 behaved the same way, i.e., not very effective for road riding. However they are great for kids bikes and as toys for kids and adults alike... you place them in unsuspecting places they freak people out... very effective on the door of my booze cupboard where I keep expensive booze etc when having people over...

I used them for commuting a while back just for the heck of it. I had three on one wheel so the design would show up much better. The only problem I had was from cars that would slow down next to me to watch the pattern change.

I've got three that I have on the front wheel of my SS commuter. They're a big hit with kids AND drivers alike. I'm always noticed, which is good most of the time ;)

Originally purchased them for a Starlight ride my club puts on. Also, we've got a silly parade during the winter called "The Parade of Lights" which I crashed last year and they were very popular with the parade goers.

They do come with some spacers that will cut down on the noise of the batteries bumping together.

I goggled "spoke light" and came up with several less elaborate alternatives. All will increase visibility at night.
