I didn't see anything in the article about a "corrupting influence," but I didn't read it that carefully.

This is a discussion of a post-modern reading of a 1950's text. The author cites a leftist critic who charges that Babar justifies colonialism, while the author argues that the book is a joke about colonialism. People who are uncomfortable about even having that discussion ask (rhetorically) "Should we burn Babar?"

We should not.

Today's children are not threatened because the book on colonialism (1950's style) is closed.
