Cantilever brake question

I have Shimano BR-550 cantilever brakes that came with a set of Aztec pads mounted (threaded posts) on the arms. Can I remove the posts and install a threaded shoe for replaceable pads? Is this fairly common? Thanks

Shimano 550's come from the factory with replaceable cartridge pads. Your's were replaced with non-cartridge Aztecs. http://cyclocrossworld.stores.yahoo.net/shbr550br.html

I noticed that in the photos, but I can't find replacement shoes for the 550's, other than aftermarkets....which happen to be Aztec's. Thanks for the info.

If you can find salmon color from Kool-Stop you will be happy for sure. Red Ritcheys are pretty good too.
