Hello All,

Are there various levels of Scandium tubing for use in Aluminum frames?

This is truly a naive question, but I really don't know. I only own steel bikes, but a friend of mine is a Bianchi dealer. He swears by the Bianchi San Lorenzo and just for giggles I checked it out on their website. It claims to be made of Scandium 7000. Is there more than one level of scandium tubing used for bicycles? If so, what are the relative advantages? What is the level used in the name bikes like Merckx, Pinarello, Pegoretti, etc?

Just trying to educate myself here.

Thanks in advance.

Sorry, the only thing I know is that Scandium alloy was developed in Russia. There are so many al alloys, that many of the top offering are pretty good. Check Easton's site for info. I think they offer Scandium tubing and might have some info.

Look into Klein/Trek ZR9000 alloy as well. It appears to be highly regarded in the mountain biking world. Since Klein "fixed" their road geo in '02-'03, you might want to check out the Q Pro Carbon as well.
