I didn't see a post from the man himself so I am going to out him here. One of our fellow members known here as Spiderman is riding an incredible endurance ride. He is riding a ride called the Gut Check. The normal gut check is 412 miles along US Hwy 212 from the Wyoming/South Dakota border to the South Dakota/Minnesota border. There is an option called "Hell and Back", that's the option that James chose (Spidey's alter ego is mild mannered family physician James Webb). He started yesterday on the 13th at 4:00PM at the MN/SD border and will meet the other riders on the WY/SD side and then ride back to the SD/MN side with them. 824 miles in 96 hours. Ouch. Here's (http://www.gutcheck212.com/hell-back-update/) the link. As you will see in the link he is dedicating this to a friend of many - Randy VanZee, a fellow rider, fellow Iowan and fellow good guy who lost his life earlier this year in a cycling accident.

Go Spiderman Go!

Holy hell! That's a LONG ride! Longer than PBP, and probably a lot more tiresome. Of course, you've got 6 extra hours.... :)

I have had the good pleasure of dealing with James and I can say that he is a true superhero in many ways.
Wishing tailwinds for you James...in both directions

According to the Gut Check web site - Spiderman made it and turned around. He started at 3PM on the 13th in MN and got to Wyoming at 10am on the 15th. Sparse information on the web site www.gutcheck212.com but then again it's a small ride and the site admin is probably a rider. He has his hands full on the ride...

...but it was a great ride...
420 miles in 42 hours.
somewhere around eagle butte
i realized that just as sam and frodo
left nothing for the return trip in lord of the rings
i would have to leave it all out on the road
just to get to the wyoming border.
physical limitations made it obvious
that i should not continue.
the dream of the complete ride
now rests with the memory of randy van zee.
