I have some old friends that are ultra runners and have done this trail run, and I have always been intrigued by the Mtb ride. I was always discouraged by the altitude and never thought I could even consider it being from Texas due to the difference.

I then looked at the registrants and there were lots from TX, and I saw a guy from Kansas, and other states sitting way below even Denver standards.

Now I am thinking I might give it a shot for 2009 or 2010 !

Can anyone recommend any blogs or similiar of folks that have done L'Ville? I am super intrigued and curious ! :) :D

There's a Yahoo discussion board with all kinds of chat - training, what the ride's like, equipment choices, you name it.

Go to leadville100 (http://www.leadvilletrail100.com/)

Also, check out fatcyclist (http://www.fatcyclist.com/) - he writes extensively about it and has some good articles in his archives.

I think Lou is in for a bit of harassment, as he took down one of the most-read bloggers on the Intarwebs.

There's a Lou in every ride.

That this guy beat me...

Hey Fixed - there was a fixed gear rider. Don't know if he finished, but I know he made it up and back down Columbine. That's some serious effort! I mentioned it before, but don't know if you saw it. Pretty spooky though as he was doing the long down hills with his feet on the top tube. But, he held it together. Hey - it wasn't you was it?

He finished in 12:08. Here's his blog. http://cellarrat.blogspot.com/
I was behind him several times on outbound St Kevins and it was interesting watching his technique on some of those crowded climbs.

The Leadville discussion group Chuck provided the link to is the best source of information on the race.

Man I'm going to try both the mtn bike 100 and the trail run 100. I may spend the whole month in Colorado.

Why not spend the summer? Leadman?
Well I hadn't considered the whole summer. My wife who's an RN likes Colorado and maybe she can find some work at one of the local hospitals in their heart cath lab. I'll just ride and run.

Have you read this guy's newest entry where he publically fully names and then trashes a guy that crashed him at the start? I agree that rules are rules and all, and the guy appears to be out of line by passing in a no pass zone, but tearing this guy up on the world wide web is a little much.

better than doing it for real on the trail imho
cheers

Why take a fixed gear bike offroad?
It's fun. Fixed gear riding is great anyhow, but offroad the silence, the amazing control and the feeling of oneness with the bike are addictive.
