Guess I can put off buying the new 7900 group since 7800 obviously is better.

That is a true statement-
But only because CSC is not a Shimano sponsored team. Shimano does not allow sponsored teams to mix in FSA and other components. I heard CSC buys their Shimano stuff.
Teams like Rabobank, Gerolsteiner, Credit Agricole, and FDJ get the new stuff first because they are head to toe Shimano including wheels and Pro brand bars and stems.

Well I've noticed a large number of people selling their 7800 in anticipation of the launch of the inferior 7900. If I was a shimano I would probably go for one of these.

How is 7900 inferior?

I was just kidding a bit about the need for the newest, lightest and best. I do like it though when a rider wins with something of "lesser" quality. I am a Dura Ace fan and have used it since 7 speed, but if the new reviews that are out are accurate at all, it doesn't seem like this version is a big step over the last in anything other than aesthetics.

No- not huge imporvements, especially in function. But it will be good enough to kill SRAM mania.

Well I was just going by the orginal post. I can only go by the unbiased reviews that say 7900 is an improvement over the 7800. I have of course no way of knowing which is better except to say I prefer the looks of 7800 crank over the supposedly stiffer and lighter 7900.

And of course I should have added a little wink icon since I was being just a little facetious.

Cheers

SRAM mania will die on it's own. I have two customers on it so far, one has two years of racing on his. The Force rear derailleur has wear in the body pivots that you'd see on a ten year old Ultegra unit. SRAM--Dura Ace price, Sora quality.

I doubt sram will go away. I think you'll see quality improvements as the seasons go by. don't forget that it wasn't too long ago that shimano was junk found on dept store bikes. had it not been for sis, they and suntour might still be fighting for shelf space with campy on higher end stuff; instead of campy and sram fighting for it.
