Has there ever been an ebay auction or like for a waiting list position on a custom frame waiting list?
I imagine it is not completely allowed though I really have no clue.

Cause for positions in housing availability I know it can be bought....by the owner of the position of course.

Thanks,
girlie

Most of us do not allow or encourage this.

What about a winner-take-all Texas Cage Match?

Now we are talking;)

Though I have to confess...I am not sure about the Texas take all part...I'm a yankee.....but I believe in the right to sucede. Though MORALLY I take issue.

Richie's website says the $400 deposit for one of his frames is not only non-refundable but non-transferable as well, so he explicitly bars this possibility.

If I recall correctly, this came up here within the past year, where somebody tried to sell a spot in the Vanilla build queue and discovered the same non-transferrable, non-refundable policy.

Not sure if this is a coincidence, but someone just sold a slot on Curt Goodrich's waiting list in the SF classifieds.

That was done with Curt's permission.

I believe RS has allowed the transfer under special circumstances as well.

I'm not sure about any others.

That's good to know. I can just imagine the ticket scalpers getting into buying up years' worth of custom framebuilder's waiting list slots and selling them at a premium! :)

Why would girlie have to be drinking to ask the question?

Given the sale of the Goodrich spot in the Classifieds, it was a perfectly valid question.

Interesting question. I've heard of this "selling your place in line to the highest bidder" being done with automobiles, specifically Porsches, but it was second hand information.

As a interesting side note, frame builder Mezzatesta was offering up a custom frame via e-Bay as of last week, though I can't find the link now. Here's his web site. I do know he's been around a long time so I'm sure you'd get a quality frame from him.
