View Full Version : SKS fenders w/o eyelets: Zip ties vs p-clamps?

Looking to convert one of my old road bikes into a wet weather commuter, and there are no eyelets on dropouts.

I want more coverage than provided by race blades (or similar) as I have those on another bike. Anyone used zip ties? Do they hold adequately? I can go the p-clamp route but thought that the zip ties might be a bit less bulky.

Any thoughts or experience to share?

Thanks.

I've used the Topeak Defender fenders on my winter bike and mountain bike-- rear mounts on the seat post and front mounts into the bottom of the steer tube. $13.00 for each wheel, stable enough for trail riding, easy to mount and remove. Best solution I've found to avoid the "skunk stripe".

p clamps work great. One nut to tighten them, then the fender stay, then another nut to tighten the stay down. If fenders don't fit under the brakes look for Reach Arounds.

but I don't think zips will give you the control nor purchase on the pipes. I think you'd be better off biting the bullet and use p-clamps w/ protective padding.

Eyelets are so right.
