Anybody else caught JV "F" bomb on the live broad cast? I watch it 3 times just to make sure i wasn't hearing things.

are you obtuse? What is is you're saying that can't be explained in polite society and why should I be interested?

Actually, that sounds kinda blunt, apologies, but I can't help feeling you're trolling for a response, so at least explain clearly what it is you're soliciting comment upon.

Actually I thought i was hearing things. I thought it was funny. Not trolling, Just normally dont hear those kinds of words on VS.

JV is director sportif for garmin-chipotle. Versus had an in car camera with JV while he followed David Millar. JV dropped an f-bomb on live tv after being asked a question by Robby Ventura.

I caught it. At 3:07 into the live broadcast from this morning. I doubt they would repeat it in the later broadcasts. Someone will probably youtube it.

Robby Ventura had that deer in the headlights look. I'll write up the exact dialog once I finish watching the stage.

i have watching the t d f forever, and i hope that they never have a segment like the rob ventura and j vaughters in the car again. sorry, but enough said.

Yeah, he definitely said it. Not the least bit bothered or shocked by it, though. What'd VS expect by putting a camera in the team car in a situation like that? Especially with those silly questions Ventura had queued up.

[And anyway, is 'the F bomb' such a big deal? The typical 'bad words' are used in so many different ways that they cease to have real meaning.]

Millar goes through the second time check in second place (14 seconds behind).

Ventura: "Jonathan, how is this going for you?"

Jonathan: "Fcuk man. How much time did Schumaker lose on that first day?"

We are adults...right?

Bad words are just words. Presidents use them and children use them. You cannot be harmed from hearing them or reading them... unless you decide to.

It was hilarious. Hearing JV drop the f-bomb was 11,000,000 times better than hearing Johan Brunyeel yell "Allez!" into Contador's ear over and over and over.

edit: It was effing hilarious!

i care less whether or not he said the "f" word. the whole segment was somewhat boring and really lacked any emotion. vaughter's conversation was anything but inspiring. sorry, but that's just my impression and i hope that racing requires more emotional high than i saw in that segment.
sincerely, don c.

I saw it too. It was so quick and off the cuff I'd have almost missed it if Ventura hadn't looked into the camera with that expression of "Oh crap! NOW what am I supposed to do? Ignore it. OK". That whole segment was rilly rilly stupid. I hope that team somehow made a lot of money for allowing him to ride along - it couldn't have helped them do their job. Vaughters had nothing to say to Ventura - he tried to answer a couple of the questions but his mind was elsewhere.

Very small deal.

I have been very impressed with Vaughters throughout the coverage, not to mention the accomplishments of his team. He's clearly intelligent, articulate and his riders seem to respect him at a level that speaks well of the present and future of the team. A few weeks back there was a piece he wrote on climbing in the NYT that was superb, if not superbly written. I like this guy. I'd bet every other director is well aware of what he is up to.

I think he's a winner and he can say anything he wants as far as I am concerned.

i've always wondered whether all the crap a DS screams in a rider's earpiece helps or just annoys a rider? all the "encouragement" seems bogus. what might be useful is course info, like when JV told millar to stay left when the motorcycles went right or that the flat section was a few meters up the road. but useful course info seems like, what, 5% of a DS's screamings?

Most DS's are control freaks....helps them continue from the car when they can't be right there with the rider. Useful info does get passed on when needed, but most of it is small talk. I liked it better when the riders had to use their smarts and instinct as a race unfolded.

But, then again, I'm just crabby.

I expect that the best of them treat their various riders differently. The best coaches seem to handle their athletes as individuals who are best motivated by different treatment.

A few rides in a few team cars does not a TdF make.

If you want to hear some true garbage from a DS during a race, watch the Saulnier Duval DVD "Quest II".......

. . . Anti-doping crusader Vaughters is urging on newly minted anti-doping crusader Millar while being distracted and interrupted with inane questions by Robbie Ventura, former personal coach of convicted and unrepentant doper Floyd Landis.

Hmmm . . . Somehow I doubt Robbie is on JV's list of "people I care whether I offend."

I wish I'd seen it. Musta been funny as hell. If anyone sees it on youtube, please post a link!

I'm an adult (sometimes) and I thought it was damn funny- mostly from Ventura's reaction. He totally locked up.

Who was the schloob in the back? I think that guy wanted the interview.

I agree. And I thought the segment was hysterical. I can't wait to watch JV whispering to Lowe as he suffers on SuperBesse. And awesome look on Robbie Ventura -- looked like he was gonna hop on a fixie.

 After second grade "the f-word" no longer impressed me.

But that interview was too funny

(Way better than a profile on the latest Trek or Specialized vibration damping innovation.)

So, since this is the "big deal" from the stage, does it truly imply that that watching a time trial is effing boring?

It was actually fairly exciting for a medium length time trial.

My 2 cents...

Time trials aren't effing boring at all. Love the funny looking bikes and helmets, and watching the guys all knock themselves out while they go for it. Except for the mountains, these are about the only stages where going fast can make a difference for a rider's place in the race. Also, I agree with William that they should get rid of the radios.

Fn' hillarious!!

I was reading on another forum when a monster triathlete/TT specialist was asked, "What are they actually saying to you in the TT?"

Answer:

"Go f'n faster you fat fk!!" Love it! Who said Sweede's doing either get amped up or are just f'n funny!

From the "Power of Argyle" on the Saris website...

"And ya, we were a bit nervous in the car today and ya, JV forgot he was on live TV when he told Robbie Ventura from Versus what was on his mind. But in the end, just because we’re a clean team, doesn’t mean we can’t talk dirty. I think with all of the hard work we’ve done this last year, we deserve at least that much"

Who was the schloob in the back? I think that guy wanted the interview.

Allen Lim, Ph.D., Sports Physiologist

I would love to have heard more from him. Maybe next time they can just mount a camera and leave out Ventura. Frankly, I could do without him throughout the entire broadcast.

Just think what conversation there might have been between Vaughters and Lim if the blatherer hadn't been present.

Wow!

a CEO of a multi-national, multi-million dollar company dropping an F bomb in the heat of "battle". Who would have thunk it?!

RV is there to bring it down to the common folks.(albeit yawn factor, better than Al Twatdick)
JV is ROCK solid.

Live TV happens. move on...nothing to see or hear here.

JV is ROCK solid.Couldn't give a damn about the F-word, but RV "there to bring it down to the common folk"? I suspect that both Vaughters and Lim are smart and articulate enough that, had they been asked prior to the race, they could have provided some excellent and more informative sidebar explanation between their coaching of Millar.

Unfortunately, I don't have Versus. My cable provider dropped OLN in 2004.

Don't miss the racing much any more (there's too much to do here in NYC during the summer), but I missed Vaughters using FCC-banned language in the team car? Now that's really very "compelling" and "must-see" TV. :p

For me, an ITT at an early stage of a toss-the-names-in-the-air TdF would be made interesting if the real-time watts, HR, and speed were continuously shown with a rider. I watched yesterday only because I have a doctor's note and a fever I brought home from Provence. I fell asleep so I have to thank the ITT for that much.

In the latter stages of the race, an ITT becomes much more compelling only insofar as the handful of GC contenders are concerned.

Otherwise, paint drying.

Otherwise, paint drying.

Yup, grass growing. With most of the riders just trying to rest and get in under the limit and usually just a handful of guys with a lot at stake. And even then, its rarely exciting. Sure Lemond on the Champs was VERY exciting, but really only for the last few kilometers. Lance passing Ullrich in that first TT in 2005 and Ullrich taking a minute or minute and a half out of Lance in 2003, and Cadel trying to catch Contador last year had some real moments of excitement. But they're few and far between. And nothing like the mano a mano drama you see in the mountains or even when a breakaway is getting chased and trying to survive. Those are much more fun to watch than just about any TT.
