If I can't repair my older Colorado tg, considering Coeur D'Acier. Really want steel frame again as I have Alum and carbon already. Any advice?

I have a steel Fierte and love it. The stock size 54 works great for me.
The CDA is designed "just for you" in size and ride characteristic, and you have more paint options.
My advice - get a Serotta steel bike - they are great!

The Serotta dealer will probably take you through the fitting process and advise you if stock will work just fine for you or alternatively why you need custom and the difference it would make. I have seen very few cyclists comment that custom did not make much difference. Maybe if you go through that process you have a bias. Most seem to think that custom is worth it.
If I remember correctly there is approximately a $1,200 difference in Fierte and CDA frames. CDS has more color and paint (which might mean a lot to some folks) scheme choices and the incremental satisfaction from comfort fit are the benefit for the additional $1,200 unless I am missing something. With CDA you might be able to get steel seat stays instead of carbon if you wanted.

Just make sure you have the best (highly experienced for starters) fitter in your area who works through a Serotta dealership. Ask the fitter how many Serottas she/he has has had built for clients --it takes some trial and error for a fitter and the Serotta crew to get to know each other. There is considerable 'back and forth' between the fitter and the person who will be designing your bike at Serotta, and that communication has to be effective for you to get a bike that suits you perfectly.
I had a great experience with such a person and the Serotta I ended up with has exceeded my expectations (see http://forums.thepaceline.net/showthread.php?t=47383).
Let us know how things turn out,

Maybe you could make a trip to Serotta's new fit lab in Saratoga Springs and take a tour of the factory.

I have a CDA st and really love it.
If you don't require custom you can pick up one of these used for around $1000 used. (frame /fork /headset)
At current new prices that's the way to go IMHO.

I have both a legend ti (posted not to long ago in the image gallery ;) ) and a newer CDA. The CDA is hands down one of the best frames for the money out there. You won't here me chant "steel is real" or anything stupid like that. It is just a solid performing bike for a rider at any level. You would not be disappointed.

My CDA is the best bike I've ridden...and I test rode a ridiculous amount of bikes before committing to purchase. It really put a lot of the high-dollar carbon offerings to shame. I had my heart set on a Cervelo R2.5, but the Serotta blew it away.
I bought mine in 2005, just out of college, so value was very important to me. I plan to keep it forever. It is the perfect all around training bike, and racing is not outside its limits, however I would prefer something less "precious" to race.
It is reasonably light, and very stiff. Absolutely no objectionable flex at front, middle or rear. Best descending bike I've had- extremely stable at 40mph plus. As you can see in the photo- hands off at 25mph is nothing.
These bicycles will never go out of style...

You can't go wrong with a CdA. I've mine for a year now, and it is the best riding bike I own.

If you like your TG, you would love a CDA! I have both, I train and now and then race on the really, really, really old TG. It was repainted this year and looks and rides like the first day it left Saratoga. Its mostly race only on the CDA. No nonesense bikes. PEER-E-ODD!

mt tg is a early 90's frame, never refurbished. top 3 cable stays are rusted off, otherwise pretty clean. Would really love to have old frame redone by serotta but dealer thinks they might not be able to repair. I'm gonna send it off and hope for best. was yours in similar condition? Thanks for info

I LOVE mine - can't imagine a better handling and riding bike. I would certainly go for custom geometry. My wait time including custom paint was only 7 weeks door to door. 53.5 sizing with full D/A build, Ouzo Pro fork hand built wheels, and carbon seatstay is 18.45 lbs with pedals and stainless steel bottle cages. All day comfort, great climber and descender with lots of punch when I need/want it.
Only downside is yes, it is too darn pretty to race!
Sandy just bought one a few months ago--to replace his CSI which did not fit as well as he wanted (I think that was the reason). Anyway--PM him, he has a lot of info on why to select a CDA.

Does "what's not to like" count as advice?
If you don't have a local fitter you trust, try posting here for suggestions. It seems to me that if you get the up-front measurements/communications right, you're bound to be happy with the result.

If Serotta is able to re-hab your current bike and the geo is right I would do that. If not and the geo is right you already have your size dialed in.
That said, there is nothing like the excitement of a new bike.

I was responding to Mike's post. Sorry if you thought I was responding to you. But yeah, you are right about the yaks and motorcycle thing. I just love my bicycle more.

Sorry so late w/a response, but mine was in surprisingly good shape. The paint on it was way tougher than any of my newer bikes. I just got sick of the old red/dayglo yellow sceme. They both should be in the Serotta section still. "Steel Serottas"
