View Full Version : Red Rock Canyon Nevada - Ridable from the Strip?

My wife and I will be in Las Vegas for a few days this week and want to get from our hotel on the south side of the Strip out to Red Rock Canyon to ride the park loop. We will have our own bikes with us. In looking at a few web-postings, it looks almost ride-able from the south side of the Strip.

Never having been there, I have no idea what it would be like riding through the city part to get out to route 160, nor whether route 160 is a bike friendly road.

Does anyone have any experience with this route?

Thanks very much.

Possible? yep. I would avoid it like the plague though unless it was at 5 in the morning and you had a crew...

Doable, but not a great idea unless it is super early. Now, having said that, I will say that riding Red Rock is well worth your time. I stayed out there for a few days in February and it was great! We were at the Red Rock casino and so I was easily able to ride (and hike) Red Rock--its well worth the trip!

Another option is to take a bus to a little ways off the Strip. The buses have racks on the front.

When I was there (9 years ago) we drove to a bike shop, rented bikes and biked out 159 (Charleston Blvd).

If I were biking, I would go West on one of the least traveled road until you were way off the center of the city and then bike up to 159 and out.

The loop through red rock canyon is beautiful.

The bike shop out there is

They would probably give you some biking tips if you called them.

I agree with the others. Sunday morning at 5:00am maybe (and it's light then this time of year) but otherwise no. If you can drive over to the Red Rock Hotel (215 and Charleston), you can ride easily out Charleston, it turns into the highway, about six miles one way to the park entrance.

It is a spectacular ride. We were in Vegas for my wife's BD week before last and I went hiking in the canyon for the first time. That was great also and as much a physical challenge as the bike loop.

If you're on the south end of the strip around the Luxor look for Hacienda, it has very little traffic and a bike lane. Take it till it ends at Durango, turn right then the next left at Tropicana. Tropicana will sort of take you all the way out to Charleston Blvd which is basically the start of the Red Rock riding area. Do start early, not just for the traffic, If you know what I mean. Hope that helps.
