Rock n' Roll, Boeshield T9, Pedros Extra Dry. I would like to try out the new White Lightning (dry, non-wax) as well. You can't go wrong with any of those.
I have tried all of the Dumonde lubes and they are the bomb. I use the heavy stuff for 'cross season with good results. Best, pdxbikeboy

Mobile 1 and white gas.

Home brew. Recently switched to naptha (white gas, camper fuel) for faster evaporation. I've used Mobil 1 most often in my brew, but I've tried chainsaw bar oil and 80/90W synthetic gear lube (kind of smelly stuff).

I tried ProLink in 1999, but after conversations with a factory rep revealed that it was mostly mineral spirits, I started using home brew - same stuff but costs almost nothing.

Now that's funny. I wondered why mineral spirits didn't get my chain very clean.

I use Simple Green to clean the chain and when it dries I use prolink.

Mineral spirits will do an excellent job of degreasing a chain. I place mine in an old water bottle about 2/3 of mineral spirits and shake for a minute or so. The solvent is then poured off into a storage/settling bottle. The cleaning bottle then gets a big squirt of diswashing soap and plenty of hot water. Shake another minute, then rinse with hot water. Wipe off excess water and apply home brew. The whole process should take 5 minutes.

I keep refilling my Prolink bottle with Dura Lube and, it works great. Lot cheaper too. Get it at the auto store.

Dumond Tech all the way for me. Easy cleanup with detergent. I have tried many lubes and Dumond is the easiest to use and provides long chain life.

ProLong SPL 100 Lube. Comes in an aerosol can, but I spray some into an old TriFlo bottle so I can drip it on the chain links or into the pivots on the ders, brake calipers, etc.

My chains show almost no stretch. Maybe I'm not strong enough to hurt 'em. This makes cassettes last longer, too. ;)

It's not expensive. One can will last more than one year. And I am lubing up to five bikes (including a tandem).

That's similar to what I do, based on advice from an old Jobst Brandt post, and I've found that an old plastic mayonnaise jar makes a great wash bottle. It's amazing how much more grit gets flushed out with soap and water. Afterwards, I put the chain into an old frying pan on med heat until the water just evaporates. The hot chain makes it a lot easier for a good viscous oil to flow into the links - even Phil Wood tenacious oil (basically chainsaw bar lube) flows pretty well. Afterwards, a quick wipe with a rag wetted with WD40 takes off any excess oil. Works great and takes me a little over 5 minutes.

Dumonde has been my fav for years, long chain life and it's quieter than most.

Dave, So you're mixing white gas 4:1 to what weight oil?

Jason -

I've heard that the magic stuff for home brew chain lube is synthetic motorcycle oil. Find a friend who has a motorcycle who does their own oil changes and there will be a source for some oil. I always have a little bit left over, since my sump takes just a hair under 4 qts. to fill w/ filter change. I'll be homebrewing soon to see how it works. I don't think that the viscosity rating is so critical, since that comes into play at running engine temps. You should be ok as long as you aren't messing with 90wt or something like that

The dumonde stuff seemed to attract a lot of dirt on my commuter. I now use the dumonde bottle for my homebrew mix of odorless mineral spirits and castrol syntec in a three to one mixture. I add more oil in the winter when it is wet everyday. It really does a good job keeping the chain clean and is way cheap to make. It will run you about $7 a year if you lube your chain twice a week.

I'm a commuter so I check my chain when I get home in the afternoon. If it is raining or has been raining, I usually end up slathering the chain in homebrew and wiping it down. It has been dry lately so I usually go 2-3 days between wipe downs. I spend the first five minutes after I arrive at home getting the bike ready to go for the next morning. I roll out of the garage at 5 am, I am not getting up any earlier.

IIRC, you work for silkolene, right?

Is this an o-ring chain lube or a non-oring chain lube? I'm pretty sure that one is a chain lube and the other is a conditioner for the orings, so that the lube stays in where it should be. Not trying to flame or call you out on this, just looking for a more complete description.

I am getting much longer chain life since I started following the directions and clean with soap and water and do not degrease. Chain life is 2-3 times longer.
