I'm thinking about selling my Merckx and I wanted to see if there would be any interest.

Merckx MX Leader 25 Anniv Motorola - 57cm
Full Centaur Group
Compact UT Crank
Open Pro Wheels
Merckx Selle Italia Saddle, Bar Tape and Bar Ends
Silver 3MMM Bar and Stem
Silver Campy Seat Post
Michelin Pro Race Tires

Bike has around 500 miles, excellent shape. Looks vintage with the silver bar, stem and seat post.

I'd like to get $2500 / OBO for it...

I will get pictures up later today, let me know if you have any questions.

Thanks everyone for their comments and input. Please let me know if you have any interest in the bike otherwise I will probably put it on eBay by the weekend.

please, when was this frame built? thanks.

I believe all of the 25th year Anniversary MX Leader frames were built in either 2005 or 2006 and I've heard that there were only 100 imported into the USA.

They were sold as part of GITA's 2005 catalog, so were likely built in 2004.

I bought mine in Sept '05 and the previous owner had taken original delivery from Merckx in August '04.

Beautiful bike. Is it 57cm c-c on the seat tube? Could you give other tube measurements?

Thanks.

I'm sure someone else will be able to add to these numbers, but this link has at least some of the frame statistics. If you need anything else measured on the bike just let me know. Thanks!

was part of the 05 line
bike has special serial# telling you which it is out of 100
Drive side of BB
mine is #51
too small for me
oh and 2005 was the 25th Anniv. (it was also Lance's last TdF)which is why I think Merckx chose Motorola
the 2004s were Molteni

I just checked, it's #30 out of 100. Thanks for the tip on the location of the number!

GL with the sale. This bike and the 63 frameset posted seem like they're from the same vintage. I guess I never knew they'd command the kinds of prices being asked (but then again they haven't sold yet AFAIK).

are selling for basically the same thing they sold for new
Merckx ran out of lugs
these bikes are highly sought after
why?
because they are worth it

Any interest in the MX-L? I would especially like to do a local sale in the LA area.
Thanks!

I was toying with selling the bike last year but I liked the bike so much that when a sale didn't work out I was kind of relieved.
Several months ago though I found out that I have 3 bad discs in my back (L3, L4 and L5) and after several spinal injections and months of therapy I'm back to semi normal mobility but it looks like I will probably never be able to ride the Merckx again.
Rather than keeping it hung on the wall (it does look good) I'm thinking that I will try to sell it again so that someone else can enjoy it.
The bike has never been down and I'm pretty open to offers especially for a local sale.
Thanks!

I'll PM you with an update but I have a good buddy who has been searching for this exact bike and I shot him a note earlier today. He was at P-R today so I don't expect him back on line until tomorrow but I'll see if he wants to take a shot at it. Thanks for the update and sorry to hear about your back....at least you're going to find it a good home and hopefully you can get on with the healing process.

A copy of people noticed that the link for the frame geometry isn't working anymore so here are a couple of measurements that people have asked for;

Head tube = 17cm
Top tube = 57cm C-C
Seat tube = 57cm C-C
The center of the BB to the top of the seat is 72cm.
Bottom of the handlebar to ground = 93cm
Bottom of the seat to the ground = 94cm
I'm not sure how you determine the seat to bar drop but if you measure from the top of the seat to the top of the bar it's just under 3cm (or 1 inch).

Please let me now if you would like anything else.

Thanks!

Before I submit the eBay ad I thought I would see if there's any interest in the frame and fork only.
Thanks!

How much are you thinking for frame and fork? Has the steerer been cut? I'm in NYC but my pops is in LA, so he could pick up. I might be interested.

I had a question about the Merckx seat that is on the bike, hopefully the picture comes through!

I've had several inquiries so I haven't put the bike on eBay yet.

First person that can give me a firm offer gets the bike.

Frame and Fork = $1200

Complete Bike = $1800

Thanks!
