In this shot the hoods aren't quite as offensive as they originally appeared.

I always wanted bigger hoods for campy but these seem a bit extreme. So ugly they are almost cute. Maybe they will look better on a bike.

I'm no fan of the way the carbon weave looks, but if it's light, and works well I could get over it. The hoods don't bother me much. I wonder how they're gonna price it?

Don't worry, I'm sure we'll see that stuff in the next Nashbar closeout.

They don't look overly offensive, and I do think they might be pretty comfortable. They might even convince me to try Campy.

well if it's a straight conversion in price, which it won't be as pricing is always cheaper in the states, the 2300 euros translates into 3,567.11 USD! I'm assuming the price they quote is a retail price in France which means it includes the tva (19,6%) . What that will end up becoming in the states will have to wait to be known, especially given the dollar's shaky condition. Nevertheless I've no doubt that buying the groupe in the states will be more interesting than buying it here, as in being there and buying it rather than ordering it from the states.

That translates to - $2,300.00 EUR = $3,567.88 USD at retail.

Wow.

Do we need another cog?

Can you say '07-'08 Chorus?

I think I am going to stock up as many 10 speed cassette, chain, rear derailleur as I can find and hope that FRN will go back up in value in 5 years.

Conceptually I'm not onboard with the change to 11-speed.....yet that rear derailleur is truly a beauty to behold!

Nasty. Looks like that cheap Taiwanese stuff that was out last year.

Cycling Weekly (http://www.cyclingweekly.co.uk/news/Campagnolo_launches_11speed_groupsets_article_2588 84.html) actually has the same pictures that were posted at Roues Artisanales, but better.

Check them out....

PS

Big D, the stuff still looks as bad as you say, sorry! :D

to do? ELEVEN. What happened to the top "10". Well, for me, the 07-08 Campy is top ten.
Thanks for sharing the pics, but this is marketing, like the Euro car makers, push toward the japanese and out do them, why not just out do them?

I still like the looks of '06 Record. Never did care for skeleton "me too" brakes.

DA works better, Campy used to look better. I think the new hoods are awful. If Campyophiles start in on the function over form argument I'm going to puke.

Well, one classic aesthetic feature has not succommed to "ergonomics," nor to anything else: the lever blades themselves are still intended to be vertically oriented.

FWIW, I like the way the rear derailleur looks.

The hoods, on the other hand...

:D

The new 11-speed cassettes are available in 11-23, 11-25, 12-25 and 12-27 ranges. Although Campagnolo have not confirmed it, it appears that cassette should fit a 10-speed hub, and therefore most current wheelsets.

I run a 13-19 ..... 11 is no help to me.

I like the appearance of the RD, but if that pricing estimate is accurate, I'm stopping at 10.

I've been looking at these pics for the last 24 hours and now I'm starting to actually get excited about this stuff. Probably won't jump on it immediately, but I think Campy is making some much-needed updates. The whole 11 speed thing is not necessary, imho, but won't be a detraction either.

The first reaction is to recoil at both the site and the price of stuff like this, but I have faith in Campy that it will be nice looking in the flesh and very functional as well.

I think I would just about take any alloy campagnolo shifter or derailleur or the carbon stuff. It just doesn't go anything for me--and it just looks ugly--to me. I think the alloy shifter are just much more durable and aesthetically pleasing.

I've also never found a valid reason why I need more than 9 cogs in the back.

Ive been a Campy guy 4 a long time, but 10 is enuff and I prefer by far the cleaner look of 09 DA. Cant believe I just said that... :p

Its looks ugly, in the way that only Italian design can produce.

Has anyone found pics of the Al Centaur levers?

Steve-glad to have most of a 2006 Chorus/Centaur group sitting in the closet

It now seems that those ranting about not needing 11 speeds and wanting silver aluminum parts can choose Centaur and meet all of their needs at a reasonable price. That's hard to complain about.

My only disappointment is the lack of brake lever reach adjustment. It's been reduced by a measly 4%, so I'll probably have to modify the '09 levers for my stubby fingers.

The new Record group is supposed to cost 2% less, the Chorus group the same and Super Record only priced 17% above the current Record group. That doesn't seem unreasonable. I also don't see how folks willing to pay $3-8000 for a frame can whine about the price of the components being unreasonable.

As I predicted, the new chain will have thinner side plates, but no lightening holes to weaken the plates. With 20% stronger material, chain strength will not be compromised. Unfortunately, you won't be able to borrow another brand of connector link for the chain, but I suspect someone will have one out within the next year. If the chain requires a new Campy tool to install the HD-L pin, I'd buy one to be safe.

It seems to me that Campy's changes for '09 outweigh those of the competition by a HUGE amount. The amount of change for '09 is usually reserved for only the top level group and trickled down over several years to the lower levels. Shimano made some much needed improvements to ONE group, while Campy redesigned all five of their offerings, beat everyone to 11 speed and wisely bowed out of the entry level market.

Perhaps Shimano will be the first to have a viable electronic group, but will it be 10 speed? Will it take the competition four years to come out with their own 11 speed groups?

Interesting that the hoods can be lengthened for larger hands. The new cable routing is also a blessing. No one yet seems excited about an aluminum finished Centaur lever......isn't this polished stuff what some were asking about ?

All in all I think this is the best engineered group from Campy in a long while...it dosn't reflect a me too approach as it has in recent iterations.
