Hi, I bought a used frame and I'm looking for a groupset... I can have a ultegra SL (brand new) or used dura ace (1400 miles) both are the same price... which one????

Have you seen the used DA?

Any flaws?

I have both Ultegra and DA on different bikes. Hard to see a real functional difference.

I don't know Shimano's warranty policy but would you have better warranty coverage with the new vs. the used stuff?

All things considered I'd probably go new.

Be a poseur, get the DA. You've got a used frame, why not have used parts too?

Dura Ace.
Why? Because it says 'Dura Ace'. You'll like your bike more. Seriously.

not but dura ace is better than ultegra, if not, everybody would be on ultegra..... even the pros

Not sure if this helps... I have DA on my Ottrott and Grey Ultegra SL on my HSG Ti. Both look great and work well. The limiting factor is the operator.

I put the new Ultegra on my wife's new bike (you can find a picture of it by doing a search in the Image Gallery). It is really nice - shifting is quick and crisp and the 2 tone crank looks cool. In discussing it with the guys at Racer's Edge, we concluded that the extra $$ for current Dura Ace was not money well spent (it went towards wheels). While not a gear junkie, she is really happy with it and has commented on how nice the gearing handles and shifts compared to her old bike.

at your level, you will NOT notice the difference between the 2.

having said that. ALWAYS go top drawer. Buy the D/A.

BTW. What frame did you end up with? Cannonwhale?

Get the DA--but tell them that you can get shiny new Ultegra for the same price and they should drop theirs...

I have already the ultegra sl brand new here..but I thought to sell this one and buy a used dura ace... I want to sell my complete ultegra sl for 630$ and I can buy the dura ace for 645$

As I understand it, the big difference between the DA and Ultegra is weight. How about going with all Ultegra except the crank? A lighter crank is well worth it, and you get the best of both worlds -- light where it counts, and better durability elsewhere. A used DA 7800 crank and bottom bracket can be had for ~$200 on eBay pretty reliably. Plus you can plow the money saved into better wheels. I am a big believer in going light on anything that rotates, and not worrying about the rest so much.

Captstash....Do you also worry more about your pedals/cleats, shoes, and socks than the rest? Is rotation there important to you also?
