After completing step one (identified by the Jerk) before going to sleep drink a sink full of water, sleep fast, then wake up and take 4 advil, drink 4 espressos, eat a banana, start the race and then do no work!!!

Schit your pants at the very start and ride on the front all day, you'll be surprised how fast the gaps will open behind you! :butt:

ride with the lead group- once you loose contact you are most likely done- so stick to the lead guys. If you cant last at that pace for the entire race at least you will know how long you can hold it. Drink lots. Most of all, the most important thing to do- no matter what-HAVE FUN  You are not a pro- you will not loose your house if you don't place well  HAVE FUN. A friend once told me that he ruined way too many great rides because he was racing.

I raced this year after a 5 year hiatus. I sort of forgot how explosive you need to be. It's not hard most of the time. Then there are shorter, and some longer, periods of agony as the peloton start being splintered and poor schmucks start getting shot out the back right and left. Don't ever get stuck in the back of the field. Not only will you get the "accordian" effect but when the group splinters on the first hill you'll have no chance of breaking the gap.

I assume you know all this already. Still, when you haven't done it in a awhile you kind of forget about some of it.

Good luck.

Oh, crit or RR?

Guess I should have read the forum before I did my first race last Sunday and experienced the accordian effect first hand. Raced in the Mt. Diablo Challenge for fun and had a great time, but sure could have done better if I'd bothered to start closer to the front of the pack.

The fun part about starting last :crap: , (out of 1,000 riders) is that I had fun passing people the whole way up. It literally took me two minutes to cross the starting line. Good news is I ended up in the top 100 which was good enough for me.

Race season is OVER drunk bruthah. Time to chill out and contemplate Pilates.
there are some crossers that would argue with that.
I really enjoy folowing the cross scene.

No, I'm with Too Tall, race season is now over for me. Time for some swimming, running and gym and drinking. Not sure how I'm gonna fit all that in with the 17 hours per day I'm on here... :crap:
