why are they the length they are?

after I go cycling and then put on any other pair of short pants, i have a white stripe where the regular shorts leave off.

would we be better off with shorter bike shorts or would that be less than manly?

I don't know if it would be "gay".

It would be "tri".

...and if your jersey hung down far and your shorts were that short...that might not look too manly man.

time to get an all over tan.

Little "sugar shorts" are kind of silly for riding since they provide minimal protection from chafing.

It depends on what Catholic school you attended....the nuns were tough with hemlines.

If you read the marketing, better compression of muscles helps with athletic performance (and I'm not referring to the short shorts pictured above). Of course, you have to buy the shorts with the proper compression for that to matter. This supposedly proven fact aggravates me because most women's shorts are cut shorter...which always makes me wonder about if shorts companies pay attention to their own advertising.

I just recently bought some new PI shorts - first time in several years, I must admit. The new ones - despite being the same 'model' and size, are at least 3cm longer than the old ones in the legs, and have a shorter torso.

Anyone else notice this trend?

Yes. And I like it (well, not so much the short torso). "Normal" shorts have the elastic hem in the middle of my hamstring which irritates an old injury. The longer ones come to the top of my knee. It seems like "team" issue shorts were always longer... more room for advertising?

Get a Brooks ..... and ride regular old Cotton Shorts ....

Now that's the best part of a BROOKS .....

No more doning Lycra Shorts. (Least for 30 miles or less)

Try Black Bottoms 'deluxe economy' shorts. The lycra fabric is superior, the chamois is old school (not a foam diaper), and most importantly they don't have that dam_ elastic at the bottom of the short. My last pair was about $55.

I get mine at bicycle oddesy in Sausilito, ca.

cheers,

I have some Castelli and I get grief everytime I wear them...>THEY are short and they do nothing for my physical looks. (but then nothing does at my age).

BUT they are paid for and fit except for that - so I ride them only on solo rides......yes I am a wimp
