View Full Version : DeSalvo on the way...

Mr. DeSalvo signed up to build for me and I'm thrilled. It'll be a traditional geometry, 56x55 with a little Freuler action in the head tube, TIG, Columbus Zona, oversized tubes for mashing, Columbus Muscle carbon fork, Campy 10 full alloy, in the third color scheme below... Sapphire Blue 5003 with Traffic Yellow logo. Oh and white bar tape. I feel like the colors of the bike remind me a bit of the 1980's, a little retro-ish and I like that.

I can't wait.

Sounds nice. Like the colors. Ride report required. You cannot ever sell that bike.

I too, expect a detailed report when you get it. I've got Mike DeSalvo on my list to choose from for my next frame.

...or go subtle and get "number six" painted at the rear of the top tube.

Why not yellow bar tape?

Why not yellow bar tape?

I feel you. And there might indeed be yellow bar tape. In fact, this was my first, fast bike circa 1985:

And we can't rule out a Telemagenta/Traffic yellow DeSalvo.

Im jealous. Gonna save up and get one of his ti frames. At 2150, its tough to find a better value from a truly top notch builder.

Just curious, what's Mike's wait time now?

His turn around right now is only 3-5 months, but Mike had started on this particular frame before NAHBS and almost had it complete, so it will likely be done even a little sooner.

MS,
You may want to take a look at Mike's new "script" logo. To each his own, but I felt it made my frame a bit classier.

Enjoy the ride, Mike is a great guy and his work follows suit.

I'm going for an 80's look. Duran Duran. Poland. Miami Vice. Luke's father. The Keating Five. With or Without You. DeLoreans made with blow. Smoking cigarettes with Roy Scheider.

If I had the guts, I'd paint the frame in magenta and yellow (like my Dave Scott Centurion). I'd like to see what logos he/Spectrum can do. I don't want any panels, just logos on the downtube and maybe something written on the top tube which speaks to the 80's like this:

has anyone had logos done on the leading edge of a carbon fork (like the Columbus Muscle)?

Lemond's old steel fork had them.

So it shall be written
So it shall be done!

Mebbe we do a white outline instead of yellow? My liver aches over this decision. I swear it'll come down to either a poll on this Forum or flipping a coin. Hell, mebbe I get Dirtdigger's cell phone number and have him make the call.

Very cool bike. Can't wait for le DeSalvo Campione.

Peoples of the free world,

Now is the time for all good cyclists to come to the aid of the party; a decision of paint for the DeSalvo must be made very soon.

We have three choices:

1). The whole frame in a royalish blue with black logos and the logos are finely outlined in yellow ala LeMond's Gitane.

2). Black, back in black. Elvis' hair color for the whole frame with simple, white logos.

3). This badarse LOOK:

My vote is definitely for the honey in the "Stop Wars" shirt.

Painting her on the bike should definitely have people staring in awe at it! :)

That would be the infamous Kessel run.

The Kessel Run, the parsecs are indeed a unit of distance. Han boasted so much, I think the Guinness on Tattoine, served in plastic cups got to his head. Planet Kessel contained spice (ala Dune) and smugglers would go there, snag some spice and jump into hyperspace before they were snagged; this became known as The Kessel Run.

It's an individual TT, straight as an arrow, but dangerous as The Maw (a cluster of black holes) is within range. Grand Moff Tarkin had a base ship within The Maw as he could hide within it while he constucted the first Death Star. Only Han and his 7' Golden Retriever could do the Kessel Run in less than 12 parsecs.
