I don't know why you find that STOP sign odd.

When I was in the Air Force, my air base had a perimeter road that went around the base AND around the runways. It was about 10 miles long.

So, one Saturday, when there's no regular flying going on, I go for a bike ride on Perimeter Road. As I'm in-line with the end of one of the three runways, I see an F-4 coming toward me and I can tell by the sound of things he's full afterburner and HONKING low. He's not gonna hit me, but I'm doomed to get rattled.

I stuck a finger from one hand into my ear, and kept the other hand on the bars 'cause I knew things were gonna get shaky, quick. I scrunched my head towards my shoulder in a futile attempt to plug the other ear.

The jet couldn't have been more than 50' above me when it blew by, THEN the pilot goes into a steep climb.

It wasn't funny at the time.

If he's coming at you at full afterburner....you're not going to hear him! ;)

I was at an airshow about 15 years ago and an F-111 came in from about 15 miles out....probably just subsonic....weirdest thing not being able to hear it until is was right in front of the stands.

Back on topic, there is road that goes past the south end of the airstrip at the Boeing plant in Renton. It has a sign that says: "Do not proceed if aircraft is in take-off position" (or something like that).

I remember a show a few years ago, can't recall if it was the Blue Angels or the Snowbirds, where they separate one plane off, get you focused on the remaining group, then sneak that lone one back in from behind you at high speed where you don't hear it coming, then it goes zipping by and you feel that incredible rumble.

I hear they stuff 4 or 5 in there at a time depending how business is going, divvy up the leftovers into equal parts and put them in your urn. That urn on the mantle might not all be grandpa. Could just be made up, dunno.

Maybe it's economy of scale? hehe

I've actually seen the before and after....we did a rehab of a crematorium years ago. Appx. 2.5 hours @ 1,500 degrees...then run through a pulverizer. Ashes to ashes...

They manager told me one at a time. The best story that he told, was about a 400# woman that had to be jammed in the oven. He said that normally the fire is so hot, that there is no smoke from the event. However in her case, it was like broiling a bad steak....too much fat and black smoke was pouring from the flue. Someone actually called the FD.....

This is at the top of a long, hard climb near Denver. Local residents fill up coolers here with bottled water, Gatorade, snacks, etc., on a donation basis. There is a porta-potty, picnic tables, lots of shade trees, and an old, restored school house here, too. It's a welcome respite on a hot day of hard riding.

jeez, talk about "share the road" :)

Speaking of "share the road," I find sharrows to be totally ambiguous. Does it instruct cars to share the road? bikes to share the road? If so, why are they offset to the right of the lane? or do they tell bikes to "ride over this marking?" If so, why not mark a BOL, and why put the sharrow in the door zone?

Not clear to me, at least.
