Changing USER name

A question came up today and I have not been able to find how one changes their ID name......has anyone done it? and if so how.

In 2005, I tried to change my user name but Serotta James...CORRECTED me.
In 2006, I tried to change my user name but Serotta James...CORRECTED me again.
In 2007, I tried to change my user name but Serotta Andrew...CORRECTED me.
In 2008, I tried to change my user name but Serotta Pete...CORRECTED me.
