How many hours do you ride outdoors in season and how many hours do you attempt on the trainer over the winter?

I hope your previous post doesn´t mean you are put off riding on the roads!

Trainer = 0 (weather is just too good here to worry about trainers)
Road = average weekly 6.5 hours (through the year)

Summer:

1 hrs/day commuting (7 miles each way)
1 hr/M-W-Th in the Park (18-24 miles)
4-8hrs weekends

Winter:
1 hrs/day commuting, except when it snows.
Weekends if it's dry/nice.

Never trainer. Too awful.

summer:
2-6 hrs/ week out on the rode
0 on trainer

winter: 0-2 hrs/ week on rode
0-1/ on trainer - I know its hardly worth the effort with those wimpy hours, but I'm thinking of getting rollers for a whole new experience
16 hours/ month skiing
25 hours/month drinking and gambling after skiing

I like riding my bike too much to ever kill my enthusiasm by riding a trainer.

Winter is time for swimming, lifting, cross-country skiing, and -- if things get really desperate -- running. I'm often glad I live where I have to take a couple of months off every year. Each April, I am psyched all over again.

In the winter, the biggest objective is to eat less...... then get serious about training in January.
Everyone needs a goal to aim for in the summer.
January is a good point of departure. Light weights with multiple reps.
Light jogging or spinning. A controlled diet. Lots of rest. A gradual meltdown of body fat into muscle.
Be realistic. Many of us are between ages 35 to 55.
We can still improve, but be kind to your body.

Realistic? Perish the thought....

In-Season: road, 10-15 hours

Oct-Mar: trainer, 6-10 hours, cross-training 2-3 hours (minimum total 7 hrs, maximum 13...)

Oct-Jan -- Weights 2-3 times/week.

I use the trainer year round. I MUCH prefer riding outside, but sometimes life interferes so I use the precor elliptical, or computrainer (never for more than an hour - I just cant do it.)

I am finding I like rollers at work - 30 min on the rollers every third day. They are not hard to ride anymore - the only hard part isnot killing myself climbing onto the bike, as the rollers raise it off of the ground and look cleats do not mix well with skinny rails. I cant start without holding onto a wall or door frame, but once I get started its no problem. If you are considering getting rollers, my vote is you get em.

Trainers...ughhh...it's like watching paint dry. Rode in 24 degree weather here this past January. (Yes, north Florida can get cold.) I just can't make myself do the trainer thingy. :crap:

2003 miles: 8,000 miles
2004 miles to date: 7,500 miles
Hours...? a few :p They're written down in my logs, but I haven't added them up in years.

1-3 sets of 50 leaning push-ups, 5-6 days a week, year round.
A full body endurance weight work-out that I developed over 4 years ago that a set takes less than 15 minutes, two complete sets, twice a week. Usually start that in late fall/winter until spring.

"Season" ????

A few glasses of red during the week, too. :p
