View Full Version : Time Trial Question...

I think I am participating in a time trial in July. I'd like to do a bit of prep work for it. I usually only take part in road races.
I've never used a power meter on the bike, and don't really pay much attention to the heart rate lately...
So I'm wondering, if I want to use my HR monitor for the TT, what is the best way, over the next month, to determine what heart rate I should maintain during the TT? Is it my 'lactate threshold' that I want to be at? If yes, again, how do I determine what heart rate that is??
Thanks!!!

Practice practice practice. Measure out a practice course (long and short) and ride it once a week. Keep good notes on cadence, speed and HR. Your adapation(s) to training will cause your HR at threshold to change so your practice sessions are key to knowing your levels for training and racing. It is generally accepted to perform several tests to find your threshold. A ten mile TT will do the trick...for HR I like that distance. I'm repeating myself to say practice your event at the distance your plan to race and repeat :) Hope that helps.
