Watching the Giro - Paul Sherwin mentioned 7 teams riding on new DuraAce components saving 1 pound in weight -was he kidding or did I miss something?

I thought it was Phil who said it. I dig him, but I his senior moments are starting to run together. He went on and on about the Cobra's bike saying it was a special Specialized.

It was British understatement.....

Is this Phil L?

He has a shiny new Ottrott frame waiting to be built up - I've seen it in the flesh. His wife has a matching one too.

This commentating gig must pay well, or his Shimano retainer is more than I would have expected ;)

He's been misidentifying riders during races for as long as i can remember. But big deal . . .he more than makes up for it with the sheer poetry of dancing on the pedals--or was it opening his suitcase of courage?

He's dropped!
he has been dropped Paul!!
Tighten the Screws
Dancing on the Pedals
He is all Over his Machine
An Absolute Beast of a Man
Heads of State
He is Wearing the Mask of Pain
Hotting Up
He is suffering like he has never Suffered before
Suffering Like an Animal
Look at that!
The Elastic has Snapped!
Caught the bunch by surprise
Boom-Boom & Out Go the Lights
Done his Job
Waving the White Flag
Cheek of the Man
Digging into His Suitcase of Courage
And where is Robbie Paul? just there Phil...
Absolutely Remarkable
Leaky Gas
Pushing a Monster Gear
Unbelievable!
Spot of Bother
Lambs to the Slaughter
Ride of his Life
Pedal Turned in Anger
Stretch the Elastic
He's Cracked
My Goodness Me
Have to Dig Deep
Cat's Amongst the Pigeons
Blown to Smithereens
Golden Fleece
Bridge to Engine Room - More Power!
Like a Demon
In the sport of professional cycling.....
And he has attacked! no Phil, he has been dropped. Oops, sorry, my mistake
A man by the name of
On the rivet
He's like Harry Potter hiding under his invisible cape. He comes from nowhere!
Completely and utterly mano on mano
He is doing the ride of his life
Turning himself inside out
He would get dropped on a railway bridge at the moment
Well ill tell you what Paul..
You are quite right Paul

That's great! I can hear his voice on all of them.

PL is brilliant, he has given a voice to cycling and for many he is truly the passion that can bring a boring race to the masses.

I heart PL!

"Armstrong is coming down the finishing straight like a Grand Prix Motor Car!"

"He's an absolute acrobat" (Ulrich going over the handlebars in the TdF stage)

Love those guys!

Every duo needs the poet and the straight man. Whether by design or misfiring neurons, they do it nicely.

Once during a tour stage I started counting how many times Paul said "massive gear" (this was in the Ulrich days) and "complete and utter". I stopped when I got to 41.

I dig those guys though. I recall somebody on another forum once describing Phil as "that kindly old uncle that you don't trust with the keys to the liquor cabinet". Well put.

The best came from Phil in stage 17 of the 2004 Giro, Tonkov won after a long solo and McGee sprinted to take third place from a selective group. As McGee starts his sprint Phil's call was something like "here comes McGee who will take third uncontested now but what's this? Here comes Cunego there as well and just short of McGee at the line. This boy is absolutely full of beans."

Wow, talk about topic drift. The title is about new DA and most of the posts refer to the Phil & Paul show. I did catch the comment about new DA being a pound lighter. At the time I said "yeah, right". Not the best reply but my "suitcase of courage" was a bit low.

But thread drift about cycling!

Phil was getting so excited about GH time trialling with a 56 last year that I imagine Jan must have been pushing an 80. :)

Bikeradar.com is reporting it's 200 grams liter however I'm not sure if that's for the entire gruppo or just shifters.
