I love a nice white bike.

Post you're favorite white bike paint jobs here.

So one day when I get that big paycheck and I build my next bike, I have all the aesthetic inspiration in one place.

P.S. I don’t give a damn that they are hard to clean…they look pretty dirty as well!!!

P.P.S This bike had been photoshoped.

My Zanc is an off-white. I don't have any pictures on this computer to post, however.

Currenlty, I'm liking this offering from Milwaukee Bicycle/Waterford/Gunnar...

I love the naked stays. Metal and white, so pretty.

It makes me happy that I am not the only one who has a thing for white bikes.

BTW, I have seen a couple really nice White Zancs on this site. Where they at?

that Carl Strong is just strong. The lack of curves give it an industrial look that really speaks to me. It even makes that normally intolerable Thomson set back look perfect. I even like how the drops of the bars are parallel with the top tube... all in all, a Grand Slam for me. If I had to pick something to fiddle with, I would like to see it with a painted to match fork.

Around 1997, I bought a used white (California-made) 1988 Masi 3V that had been bought NOS only the year before. The guy who originally bought it had ridden it for a year and then decided to get himself a Bititan.

The paint looked like pearl from a distance, but closer-up you could tell it had sort of a gold flake in it. It was beautiful, but perfect touch-up was impossible. I put a bunch of miles on it (before I had a few bikes from which to choose) and then it sat dormant for the last few years. This spring I ended up selling the frameset for a couple hundred bucks to a buddy who needed something to build up on the cheap. If I can find a photo, I'll post one tonight, but it won't do the paint justice.

Regards
Tom

I'm not the first but I also want to bring up the Elephant in the room so to speak and tell you how nice it is. Post some pictures and a ride report when it's built up!

All of these white bikes are really sharp and I have to admit that I never thought of white for anything except major appliances. That is, until a few months ago when I decided to have one of my bikes repainted. After looking at all kinds of colors and combos in every online gallery I could find, I decided my bike will be a bright pearl white, with red contrasts and some black and Ti grey touches. I hope this place is still here when I get mine back so I can post some pictures!

I had 9 speed flavored ultegra on there set up with a single ring. Switching the cassette between this bike and the road bike (when I was using clinchers) was getting to be a pain so as soon as the ultegra stuff started to poop the bed, I made the leap.

It has only been on for a month so nothing off road yet but I do like it. My brain likes the ergonomics and the consistent shifting. My heart likes the hidden cables and silver bits. The throw on the front is pretty long, but the action on the rear is very nice imho... not sure why they changed it.

Please PM me when and if you decide to construct stems for the general public.

Hey Saab -- have you done a ride report of your CSi yet?

Yeah, I have mixed in some comments here and there. Ride quality is nice and smooth. Front end rigidity is not what I would like and it has some shimmy when riding no handed. I would not be able to descend an Alp and put newspaper under my jersey on this bike riding no handed. :D

Also, the handling is not as neutral/stable as my CIII. Don't know why, but it needs to be ridden with intent as it doesn't just intuitively go where it's supposed to, like some bikes.

I would give my CIII a 9 on a scale of 1 to 10. I would give the CSI a 7.5 on the same scale.

Keep in mind that this bike was at one point damaged and repaired. The top tube when looking down it is not perfect. I got a great deal on it and had it repaired and repainted in the form you see in this picture for a grand total of less than $700. So on a financial scale, it was still a bargain and I wish I had had a bike this nice when I was starting out.

So I am a huge snob and elitist. Because the bike is not bad by any means, but up against tough competition like my CIII and Look, it just doesn't measure up to that high a bar.

Keith A
05-17-2008, 08:25 PM
Thanks Saab. Too bad your CSi didn't quite live up to expectations. For me, my CSi is one of the best handling bikes I have ever ridden. I would be able to descend an Alp and put newspaper under my jersey on this bike riding no handed. It goes exactly where I want it to go and it does a great job turning.

I remember a while back riding home after work and was going pretty fast with a good tailwind and the draft from the cars and I had to turn onto a side street and there were cars in the other lane trying to get out, so I didn't have any room for a mistake. I decided to push it and take the corner at full speed and my CSi whipped around the corner with no problems. After I made the turn, I realized that wasn't the safest thing to do, but if felt good to have my bike handle so well and to know that I could completely trust this machine.

I also used to take this out when we used to do our crit training...even though it isn't my lightest bike and it takes a little more effort to get this up to speed...I knew that I could fly around the corners.

I am suspicious that it may have handled better in its past life. I don't know the complete history exactly, but the previous owner did disclose that it had been damaged. I let Chris Kvale have at it, but it just isn't the handling instrument that my Look is.

Still, it's a nice bike and will be a bit more user friendly when I get a cassette and chain for the Ergo stuff now installed. Plus, the wheels are a bit stiffer and that may have a positive impact on the shimmy thing.

Report to follow when it's done.

My Atlanta is also kinda slow to corner, as if you really have to force it.

It's kinda wierd, because it's not just slow, but it also doesn't track as well as my CIII for example. It needs to be ridden and steered all the time. The other ones have handlebars just for a place to put your hands, but the CSI needs to be steered with the handlebars. The other ones steer much more intuitively with the hips and shoulders and knees, etc.

I sound like a whiner here, which is not the case because it is indeed a nice bike. I guess I had hoped for something different. But it's still a nice bike!

I know exactly what you mean. Mine is super stable and would never shimmy (although it did once going fast down a mountain when I swerved quick around a rock) oops. This is old news but you are not imagining it.

I had been riding my Nove solely for a year. The TSC just hung out in the garage as a spare, and I considered selling it.

But, in the same vein as jimcav's "Turning 40" thread, I needed something to take to France and Italy, and I didn't want to risk the Nove getting lost of damaged. So, the TSC became a travel rig with an XT rear dir and cassette.

It climbs, descends and handles as well as anything I have ever ridden. It just doesn't have the cachet of having cost thousands, like another scandium frameset being fashioned in Belgium.

I never imagined to hear that praise from Mr. Hampsten, a man who certainly knows his way around proper road bike geometries. Steve, I'll trade you straight up for a Hampsten/Moots 58. ;-D

Simple me, I was thinking white/red/black, but this is kind of like an elementary school exercise where different people pick different themes.

The $ theme was not on my radar, especially as this bunch took years to collect and some came at much lower prices than they would now.

Yes, all Shimano (tried Campy, underwhelmed), though I recently bought my first Red shifter-equipped bike and could see buying others where weight was a priority.

Red tires - yup. To my eye black tires drag down the style a bit when paired with black wheels.

Here's a theme I noticed when looking at all your themes: white Aliantes. You think Fizik will send me a T-shirt for being a great customer?

Ah, the fine line between white/red and red/white :)

Climb, to some extent there was pride of place in the order, with the three customs up front and the stocks in the back, with the Dale the stock that's more of a go-to than the others for its all around character, especially with those wheels. Also, the Look has a flat tire and I don't use those wheels on that frame.

The second Crumpton was one of Nick's first CF bikes for outside customers, not an SL. Has a mellower ride but is still a phenomenal bike. The SL is a first generation SL before the Edge fork. I had not shown that frame with those wheels before, which is another reason I wanted it up front. Nick says the Flahute is overkill for the way I ride.

Other than a project that's 8 months in the making and counting, I'm done with white bikes (though the Madone inside the front cover of the new VeloNews is pretty hot...). Crumpton 3 will instead be...............(nobody will guess correctly, so do not try).

I worked at Bike Barn here in Houston all during college for gas, insurance, and tuition money. The pay wasn't great but with the employee discount, I was able to get a few parts here and there and pay for 4 years of schooling.

The shop sold Klein's and the 1999 Klein Quantum Pro bike always caught my eye. A fellow co-worker then and still fellow buddy now, was lucky enough to purchase one back then and he still has it to this day.

I always told myself that I would purchase one if / when I was able to afford one. As a college student working nearly full time to pay for school back in mid-90's, $3-4k bikes were so beyond my reach.

This particular bike holds a special place in my heart because it reminds me of the simple years during college. That was 1995-1999 for me. This was way before the mortgage, 401 (k), and other adult responsibilities that comes along with growing up.

Anyways, I was able to actually find a 99 Klein Quantum Pro frame and fork online (Craigslist) after several months of looking. Mine is the smaller one in front.

I hope you all are as lucky as me in finding that bike that pulls at your hearts. Life is too short not to enjoy things like this with your friends.

Take care and ride strong!!!

This one's pretty near and dear to me. When I was just getting into cycling and racing back in the late 80's, I watched Greg LeMond, Stephen Roche and Pedro Delgado win the tour with Campy Record equipped bikes and I would dream of having one just like theirs. Couldn't quite swing the cost as a high school student and part time bike mechanic...

Fast forward to 2009, I'm a framebuilder, working part time at Ben's Cycle in Milwaukee. They just happened to have a Campy Record kit with the Delta brakes that was looking for a home. I knew what I had to do, build my "dream bike" from 20 years ago.

It's an almost complete Record "Century" finish group. The rims are vintage Ambrosio Synthesis for the back and Crono up front. I built the stem and had it chromed along with the fork legs, and the rear end is polished 953.

My only problem now is, is it too precious to ride? It's sitting in the living room for now, I'll see about riding it when the weather gets a little nicer!

Nice Crumpton--what is the ST angle? I assume you can touch palms to toes standing? The pink is subtle and looks good where you put it--pink tape wouldn't have worked.
