View Full Version : Legend CX...and fork?

To go with my Legend CX I have the Serotta offering of the Alpha Q carbon fork. I like the straight bladed look but the appearance seems to not really 'go' with the frame too well. The crown area looks a bit bulbous to me and doesn't compliment the overall of the bike. I'm looking for something a little more svelte and more in keeping with the frame tube diameters - I feel that a fork ought to look like a natural flowing extension of the head tube and not seem like some ill considered 'bolt on'.

Serotta isn't making steel forks now - is that a collective forum groan I hear? It has been suggested that Independent Fabrication makes nice steel forks, and Vicious Cycles too. Never had stuff from either. IF can make one in good time, and I don't want to be waiting around all Summer for delivery from another ultra bespoke builder with a looooooong waiting list, and so would I be making a wise choice in IF (or Vicious, or 'other')?

The only other possibility would be a carbon Reynolds Ouzo CX fork - not straight bladed, but more svelte than the Alpha. Mucho thanks once more :)

dude you're thinking too much. the alpha is a great cx fork. when you're skittering through a gravel covered turn trying to keep from smashing into that tree on the outside, are you thinking whether your crown looks too bulbous?

What the big "C" said. The AlphaQ is a BA fork and I agree with you...*** were they thinking? I hate the big hips look. If you want to go with a wound up you won't hear me groan. There are some fantastic custom builders who participate on this forum who can make a steel fork for you...just don't call them names and you'll get along fine ;)

"Think", said Mr. Watson.

I wonder which would survive best if I did smash into that tree, steel or carbon?

Probably neither. The only fork issue I ever had in cross was a bent steel fork from a high end builder, with 531 blades. I didn't crash it- I rode hard across a small ditch/water bar ahd reduced the rake by 1 centimeter.

I sent it back for inspection and they said it would be destroyed as it would weaken it to straighten it.

I've also had a Winwood,Alpha Q, and a reynolds Ouzo Pro. My all time favorite was the Alpha Q.

Ride it.
