When I was road racing and needed to settle down, I would imagine that I was just going out to ride with a bunch of friends.......that I wanted to shove their bikes up their a$$es. It worked. I would be calm and focused for the early part of the race, and then was able to go in psycho killer mode when I stepped into the coffin. It worked. Most of the guys that I raced against are happy that I would rather drink beer now.

just from watching you in the film... i think your the type tp make the selection and then grind them to death. you work into the hurting zone and then just let it cook there like a mean deisel. is that your style?

bwah, what am i saying.. you could give a master class. lemme put it this way, you go girl. i hope the prize money covers the gas.

i only started the coughin'* when i needed to.
i'm racing without a team.
let the others play the tactics game.
when they start with the egos, i wait and then go to work.
for me that occurred mebbe 3 miles from the line.

I've found that in these early season races lots of riders overestimate their strength - the memory of mid season last year is still fresh in their minds. Going into it thinking you're gonna get hurt is probably the best tactic. Replace strength with suffering, pick the right wheels and don't put your nose into the wind until you need to.

On the other hand, geezer racing is different. There are probably 10 guys in your race who don't just want to finish well, they want to send a message to those who don't - quit the sport! Somehow in masters racing the attacks are meaner, the pack's group decisions can be just plain cruel. It may be worth your effort to make some secret alliences in the parking lot before the race.

81 pre-registered, but they suggested a count of 100 at the start. A bit of congestion in the first 15 miles.

Lots o' attrition. With everyone else laboring up to the finish, it appeared that you had alot of snap in those legs in the last few miles.

I did not hang around for the results, but expect they will be posted tomorrow at the school/registration.

I was the Fred with the Chia pet legs. My legs need both grooming and more miles. Bethel Cycle kit, I think you graciously closed a couple of gaps for me. I figure we finished in some proximity.

Fun day, athough I found the lengthy neutral start not to my liking. A few more rides like that and maybe I can find some fitness. I shot home for some family stuff and will miss the Palmer fun.

Best for Sunday. With all that late race strength you should be all set for tomorrow, as many were looking a bit shelled at the end of the spin today.

Saw e-RICHIE on the highway driving home. I waved. I was going the other way. Love those early morning races and then, 4 hours later seeing guys just heading home (I went to see the Titanic exhibit in Hartford). It sank. Nice weekend for racing and the weather held off...

'was 28th and came in w the group going for 11th place.
we were 56 seconds off the winner's time. a small break
went several miles out and stuck atmo.

today was different. way faster. no place to get away
tho folks tried. i burned one match and then realized
that today i'm a lover not a fighter, so waited in field
to see the 1K mark and race from there.

go for it atmo.
ps today was a weird race. another 3 laps of 16? miles
and no real climbing. a few rollers. it actually seemed to
be downhill for 80% of the course. i spent more time in
my 12 and 13 in 2 hours than i have in the past few
years. and the 11 came in handy too. i don't know
what the others used, but for me it was better to
muscle it out than to increase the rpms. i don't
think anyone even rolled off at the finish. 'just a
long swarm of good looking men at 38mph atmo.
