View Full Version : Reliable Floorpump?

I am looking for a reliable floorpump that can deliver 150psi without leaking and that lasts. Based on my experiences, I am not sure whether these demands are mutually exclusive. I now went through a Zefal (don't remember the name) which leaked after the plastic base cracked, a nice Park PFP3, it started to leak at the barrel bottom after a year, and I briefly had a Silca, which I sent back to Excel Sports, as it didn't work properly, even after greasing the leather plunger. I would like to hear your experiences and recommendations?
Tx!

Check the Zefal Husky - it is a stout piece of gear. Metal base. I modified mine with a brass presta-only chuck. At this point, I'm not sure how long I have owned it. I don't doubt it can do 150psi.

Topeak Pro is my favorite by far.

I have a Zefal Husky that is ancient. I only need to do the same as mauna and upgrade it to presta only. It was my only pump for years (like 15 years). It routinely pumped up my Comp GPs to 150 psi without any problems. I'm not sure if it's available anymore, tho. Haven't checked around.

Specialized Air Tool Pro. Chrome, single stroke, metal base, bleed valve, no frills, but heavy-duty.

Made like the old pumps.

It's their best pump, and the one I chunked everything else away for.

I have had a Blackburn Airtower5 for a year after exhausting another 10 year old Blackburn. I have never had the Airtower5 up to 150psi but have had it to 130. The guage's max reading is 160psi. I immediately ditched the stock head and replaced it with a Silca head. winking smiley face

My Specialized works fine, not too expensive either.

Have had mine for years, only occasionally does the valve head or washers need replacing. Don't see me ever buying another pump unless one of my kids tries to pinch it. Gotta watch them.

I have used a Specialized for years with no issues, I only go to about 130 lbs so I don't know the hight end limit. BUT, if you frequent this forum you are not allowed to like anything Specialized makes....

I "heart" my beloved Superpista in a big way, and hate the thought of letting her go. I've rebuilt it more times than I can count, but lately I can't stop the crazy thing from leaking air around the stem on anything but a Michelin A-1 tube. I've a stack of new rubber inserts but none work any better than the next, which sux since I spend most of my time on Veloflex's. I'm about ready to give up and chuck it...

I bought a SKS Rennkompressor on my last trip to Germany. Although I can't yet say anything about the longevity of the pump, the design is convincing and it works like a charm, no leaks, easy action, highly efficient.

Blackburn Airtower 5 is a bit expensive however it has a lifetime warranty and if your not a big person it's nice and easy to pump with the high pressure or high volume switch.

Eh,

I have a joe blow pro from 1998 or 99. In 10 years I haven't had to replace one thing on the pump. I suspect the o-ring on the plunger is probably just about gone but I'm not gonna check until the thing dies.

It's rated up to 160 psi. Never tried it above 120. Handles well at 120. I suspect 150 would be a piece of cake.

I've also had my Husky for 15 years also...with the brass silca head like "mauna"

I put a new washer in every year and I'm good to go...

I love my Performance pump. It's got a lifetime guarantee. It has the best head of any pump that I have tried. And, unlike my blackburn tk4, the gauge works and it's accurate. The tk4 guage says 35 lbs and it is actually 60 lbs.
OUCH!

Cheers,

kane
