Saturday morning World Championships are always the most dangerous.

Testosterone festivals are accidents waiting to happen.

One of the benefits of getting older and slower: no test fests.

Buy some Lotto tickets, too.

Actually, I think you won the Lotto this morning.

We have a year round local ride like that. Sometimes 100+ riders. It's well known all over the state. The unofficial sprints go crazy. Both lanes and the whole nine yards. You'll have p1,2 racers, national lever triathletes training at the US Triathlon center, and every racer wannabe mixing it up.

One of the idiots got taken out by another idiot a few months ago. Busted him up good but he's riding again. Well he went to the scummiest personal injury law firm we have in Orlando and is sueing the other rider. The plaintiff claims he did not know that riding a bike was that dangerous.

A lot of people are shocked someone whould sue. I think it's indicative of the kind of idiots that can populate those rides.

But the first 10 mins, and 3 of 4 are on the DL? Sounds like my f-ing Yankees.

Must have been one heck of a pothole to take out 75% of Bumfark's ridin' group.

Sorry AM...Better times ahead. Best to the injured.

ouch. those are some painful injuries. i hope they all heal well.

like the other posters i've seen this stuff happen too many times but like a dumbass i didn't heed the warnings. got caught up in a pileup caused by a comlpete incompetent. now it's solo or invite only small groups.

...from back when i was young and sillier...

ride was called 'the hell ride'
full of high level racers, the odd pro triathlete and too many wannabes.
regular altercations with traffic and police but surprsingly few crashes.

i did it religiously for years.

one particular morning we are about 2km from the final sprint, 55+ km/h.
i'm badly positioned about 30 wheels back trying to fight my way up to the pointy end.
i hear that sound and the bunch parts in front of me.
i duck as a bike soars overhead and swerve around the downed riders.
off the gas, most of the bunch rolls to a stop but a few eff wits blast past trying to "win"...whatever  .

turns out my friend mike went down in the mess.
scratched up and grazed. plenty of blood but nothing really serious.
his bike frame looked like a pretzel, front wheel mangled, levers smashed.

by chance i'd driven to the start that day so i give him a lift home, save his family the stress etc.
we pull up and his brother is watering the garden.
he sees mike all banged up and me getting out of the car and leaps to the obvious, but wrong conclusion.
runs over and takes a swing, which i duck.
mike grabs him and explains. brother apologises sheepishly and invites me in.

we still laugh about that day.
