Not sure if this' been discussed here already but, what's the best food pre-ride? Especially before a long and tough one. Any special stuff out there?

For me, a bowl of oatmeal with raisins with skim milk follwed by a bowl non-fat yogurt & raisins. No sooner than 45 minutes before I head out and I'm good. I'm a grazer eating lots of smaller meals throughout the day.

Back in the days of 100 mile races, the day before was the day to load up. The morning of the event I will eat next to nothing. I HATE riding with anything significant in my belly.

When I am in the Twin Cities are ride there with my buddies in St. Paul, I leave the house at about 7 AM and get back around 10:30 AM. I will eat nothing before such a ride and feel much better.

Of course, to keep from getting hypoglycemic you need to drink something more than water during a ride.

Anyway, everyone's different. I don't like to ride hungry, but I don't like to eat before a ride either.

I can never go out on an empty stomach. If I do it will be growling at me the whole time.

I just finished a bowl of greens (baby spinach etc...)
&
A bowl of oatmeal with a tbsppooon of nutritional yeast, flax oil, home made maple syrup and cinnamon. It may sound nasty, but it tasted great, and every time I eat nutritional yeast I get a huge burst of energy. Must be all the B vitamins or something

Unfortunately, I had a late night in the studio last night, so even though I'm well nourished, I'm still tired and slightly hung over
Musicians and their drinking problems... hehe

A salt bagel or two with creme cheese. If they come right out of the oven even better.

My last few races I've employed a can of amp. Whoaaaa nelly.

I can get by with chaulk-full bowl of cereal with the fixin's and maybe some yo-gurt. Used to be I'd do homefries and some scrambled. No more.

Commutes to woik are done on an empty tank.

That is about as heavy as I personally would go in the morning. And even then at least an hour before a ride for me.

Big bowl of Fiber One cereal with some Grape-Nuts and a bit of sweet cereal...If I'm doing a looong ride, I will add a protein bar.

Seems to keep me going for a long time.

Special K and fruits. And I take a bunch of "snacks" with me while riding. I guess that's why I'm not losing weight... :crap: :D

4-6 egg whites, cheese dark rye and tea/coffee --> 30-45min wait --> ride.

post ride is whey protein, creatine, BCAAs mixed in 1 C plain yogurt or OJ.
