View Full Version : Rudy Project Foam Dome.
Do you guys remember these? Does anyone out there have experience with them or know where to get them NOS?
Here is a throwback pic of my buddy Hernan rocking one out in the Giro.

I tried to get one from my Rudy rep way back when but he couldn't get them then, I'd still love to have one.

Yes. It snapped on or off depending on your mojo that day.

Here's a similar wacky version from Carrera. Loud yellow and faux carbon.
Also with the duck bill on the back, rather than the front.
Scroll down the link, it's about half-way.

I've got one...in yellow just like in the picture....I am sure that they haven't been made for quite a few years now. The funny thing is that it was a product that Rudy marketed to casual, recreational cyclists....and then the pros started using them. The trick is to buy it small and then remove all of the pads so that the helmet sat directly against your head.....
Also, the visor is not detachable (except permanently) but is mounted on swivel rivets......and there are snaps to affix it either forward like a Fred or backward like a pro....

I wasn't clear. I'm talking about the guy modeling the Carrera. Look at it and you'll see what I'm talking about. Garzarelli's bagging Vegas show girls all year long.

I want a Carrera Carapacho. Seriously.
It's frustrating to see so much exposure (full page in Buycycling) for a product you can't buy.

Haven't run it through a translator, but the pics are great.
How could someone actually want to wear this thing?!

One from Ribble and the other from Geoffrey Butler in the UK (settlecycles also had em). Not sure if they're still in the line up. not sure if anyone will ship them.
Really low tech, but they both vent pretty well and the beaver tail helps keep the sun off your neck...
As for tan lines, "the baldy" has enough sense to wear a thin / breathable scull cap...
Oh, Also, I'm not "gellin" so sorry for the lack of atmos (is the plural Atmi or simply still atmo?)

Every now and then, I see a guy on 9W wearing a white one.
It's a momentary flashback every time I see him.

Interesting concepts.
But I'll keep my Giro Atmos, TUVM.

I remember Danillo rocking the Carrera when he was on Aqua Sapone. I think he brought over the Carerra sponsorship to Saeco because when he joined we went from Briko (Cipollini's deal?) to Carerra.
Let me know if your friends in the UK can still get one.

One more note on the Rudy Project version.....The snaps/rivets rust pretty quickly when you use it....so you will have to paint the inside of them with Rustoleum and that will solve the problem....

Whenever I think of the Rudy Project foam domes, I see Ludo Dierckxsens, who, frankly, always looked freshly escaped from a Brueg(h)el painting.

Point is most modern day helmets are ugly and awkward looking not to mention overpriced.

when i was on sotheby's we got to wear rudy project helmets that also functioned as a lettuce crisping salad bowl while doing double duty functioning to make every guy look like a giant penis.
baseball caps rock!

For the record: "I love my Rudy Project and Spiuk brand helmets."

rudy project is good stuff! we just had em that one year when the discovered that genitals had less frontal area and should be a good helmet shape. they quickly evolved that look. into somethig sexy (remember my face isn't too easy on the eyes to begin with).. although it might have been the same one you had on saeco or was that carerra back then?

Yo Swoop. (http://forums.thepaceline.net/showpost.php?p=524321&postcount=207)
Rudy Project does make the best glasses/helmet combo out there. Except for Spiuk of course, which I love equally as much during the road season.

you look rad on it.. that's all that matters. winning is trivial. looking good is forever!
Ah... the good old days. When you could be a total idiot and race without a helmet.
