Worked in New Orleans for the last few weeks. Every night we would walk around through the French Quarter to see what was going on. On lots of corners there, there would be folks playing guitar and fiddle and stuff. One guy was playing songs with glasses of water. The best music we heard was from some kids on the corner of Bourbon Street and Canal Street...the "To Be Continued Band". Those kids wailed but could'n't find any of their music on line. Didn't hear any zydeco this trip, but love NO music.

Does the 4-piece still congregate down at Jackson Square in front of the church at 6 pm and play for donations? I was there a few yrs ago and went down every nite to hear them play. During the day, there was a old man playing trumpet over at Cafe du Monde. If you like jazz and blues,, it's the place to be.

Din't see them playing but they might still be there. Love the Jackson Suare area. My routine (not a regular) was to walk down Royale or one of the other streets...check out what was going on...stop by Pat O'brians for a hurricane. Walk down Bourbon Street on the way back and make rude comments about the tourists (wow...wearing a tie and mardi gras beads. they must be here for a convention). Meanwhile, they were probably looking at us and thinking, wow...those idiots look like yankees!! Anyway, the French Quarter is beautiful.

My nephew graduated from Xavier last year. His avocation (and now his vocation) is playing the piano (mostly jazz, with some organ thrown in). He stayed in NO and makes his living (not quite 'hand-to-mouth') playing. See if you can find Phil Breen playing somewhere. He is very good. Think he will have a long career in front of him.

The street music and bar food of NOLA are hard to beat.

Loved this place:

Tommy was a legend:

When his mate; PORK CHOP; danced they set the city on fire.

The grand daddy of the multi-stage music event still rocks.
