Does anybody out there make a "normal looking" (i.e. no funky bends) silver handlebar with larger clamp diameter? I want to use a silver stem (threadless) with silver bars and I'm having a heck of a time making this combo work.

TIA

Deda makes the Newton in a metal finish both in regular and shallow.

Dirt - If I may ask, how much did it cost to do that? And how did the paint not chip off when you clamped it?

I've got a Newton classic ready for my new bike and though they are polished the finish is somewhat blue/grey not silver. Still very pretty though.

I paid $50- the guy that did it was trying to figure out how to charge me less- he wanted me to do a single stage silver (think dull aluminum wheels on a car) rather than the double stage (think shiney wheels)

I didnt want that- that ment he had to buy the materials rather than use what he had on hand- so I had to pay for that-

I have no issues with what i paid

powder coating is very strong- much stonger than paint

its not going to chip- look at how thick it is

Digger of Dirt,

What kind of bars are those? I have the same stem on my CIII now and a set of 3T Rotundos. They are pretty nice bars but I wouldn't mind the same treatment.

BTW, I would take pictures if I still had a digital camera.... :crap: I need to buy a new one soon.

Looking good. I like the silver look too. At least in some applications. I am still getting used to the 'ribbed' Thomson stem, but regardless, it is quality.

Louis,
I've been looking for the "Speciale" too, but I didn't post it because despite searching high and low I haven't found it anywhere except on Deda's site. Maybe it's not in distribution yet?

Anyway, if you find it for sale somewhere please do let us know.

Willl do.

You wouldn't think that something so basic would have to be called "Speciale."

I'm riding Pro PLT compact and I love them. I have them in metalic silver and it is pretty much the same as the Deda. The best part is that the bars are $55 at BeyondBikes.com

Cheers

+1 for the PRO PLT handebar & stem. I have the traditiona bend which is very solid & comfortable. Very affordable.

I know this might be blasphemy and its not 31.8, but my favorite bars are the Nitto Noodle. I have one on my fixed-gear Spectrum set up as a roadbike, I rate it equal in comfort to the Ritchey and Deda Belgian classic bends, which I prefer over the new Gimondi styles. True, for fear of fashion prerogatives I was hesitant to install the Noodle on my roadbike, so this powder coat option is way cool.

Strong work! These look great. I can't wait to match them with a lugged rig.

Just finished "un-anodising" and polishing a set of black Deda bars to a deep polished aluminium mirror shine! used wet and dry down to 2000 grit and then polished with a Dremel and metal polish. Question now is can/should I clear coat them?

I don't think that bare polished aluminum stays shiny for very long.

Bontrager handlebars are now made in silver. They are the 31.8 clamp size.
