I normally race around 100 psi maybe 110 psi maximum (700c x 23). What do other riders ride at....I have read a couple of posts where they mention 120 psi? I don't normally race crits or circuits ..tend to be out and back courses in hilly country.
Any recommendations.

rider weight would have quite a bearing on optimum tire pressure. Heavier riders need more pressure all else being equal.

Good point ....didn't occur to me. 100 psi is rock hard to me and is a dry day race pressure. I normally would train at say 90 psi. I weigh 73 kg wet through.

I tend to use the maximum allowable pressure of the RIM, not necessarily of the tire. This may be throwing caution to the wind, but I am relatively lightweight and thus far I have had not problems.

Depends on the tires, course and weather. Singles 100-130 psi. On our tandem, we've gone as high as 160 psi for tt. All conti clinchers with Mavic rims.

Isn't max psi on Mavic rims, for clinchers, about 138 psi, per Mavic?? I am pretty sure it is about that,at least for the Open Pros.

Maximum Mirman

PS- How is you knee?

The only pressure rating I've seen are for my Mavic Cosmic Carbones. I think Mavic lists max. pressure for Carbones at 125-130 psi.

When we ran 160 psi on our tandem, we were using MA40 rims. Come to think of it, we might have used our front Zipp wheel (530 rim) by that time.

I remember doing a climb up to Mt. Pisgah in NC on our tandem. We had our tires pumped to 150psi cold. When we came back down those switchbacks, the rims were so hot you couldn't touch them. Couldn't even take air out there was so much pressure!

Knee-it's better but I'm just futzing around these days and enjoying the weather.

I find that I can run much higher pressure on Tubulars and still have a comfortable ride. For races I run 140 psi for TT with Coti Competitions and 130 psi for RR on Veloflex Carbons. On clinchers I run 120 psi.
