The LBS that caters to racers and carries a lot of Campy stuff was "asked" by his supplier to place an order and didn't. The owner said he has had zero interest because no one expressed the view that Record Ergos "weren't stiff enough already."

There is, though, a have-to-have-it factor that I'm sure will entice a few Amex-wielding sycophants® to pop for them.

Since they are RED that says it all but>>>

They will make you faster and more streamlined.

I love the write up in Competitive Cyclist.

Can see why certain folks here are pushing Red. Nice margin.

Once again, another classic piece of writing by Brendan on CC. He calls it like it is- I appreciate that.

Having rebuilt a few Record levers in my day, that is one expensive spring!

My favorite part is "Are you familiar with the song "A Boy Named Sue"? Italians -- we'd like to introduce you to Johnny Cash. And Italians, for God's sake, we'd like to introduce you to this new-fangled bike-parts company called SRAM."

Anyone know where I can get the bumper sticker that reads "I kiss podium girls?"

Ahhh, the sticker is not for me though, with three kids, a great wife and having made the LEAPMO, I would only be a poser.

You know, for the very first time, I find the writing in the RED write up sounds
like a bunch of BS.
I love CC.com I think they are awesome guys. But this piece misses the mark
becuase THEY HAVE NOT RIDDEN THE SHIFTERS!
So what's the article about?

Suggesting that maybe you'd get dropped from a break becuase you can't move the lever?
Whatever.

What I value about CC.com is writing about their actual experience. The internets
if full of blowhards spouting about things they know nothing about, and people
speculating about what 'might' be.

I'm not really taking them to task on this article to be a dick. It's just that
so much of what CC.com does actually does speak to me on a level that rarely
happens. They should stick to what they do best... write about products
they use.

Word. No wonder I like eBay and the Serotta Classifieds. I paid about 1/3 of the new price for these from Ms. Tailwinds a couple years ago. They are not slowing me down too much even though they have no red on them.

I think I missed something.
Wasn't part of the overhaul in '07 to make the shifter action lighter?
Did Campy recently find a dusty box of '06 shifters?

I can hear it now:
Luigi: "Look at this old crap. What are we gonna do with it?"
Antonio: "Hey, Luigi, I gotta idea!"

Take away something that always existed, re-introduce it and sell it for more as an improvement.

NEW ITEM AVAILABLE!

An incredible advance in bicycle shifting technology!

FRICTION SHIFT LEVERS

Ultra-light shift levers controlled by FRICTION ALONE!!!

Amazing as it may sound, these shifters require no cams, ratchets, or other means of artificial derailleur retention, but rely on friction alone to hold the levers in place between shifts!

Remember - friction is an all-natural force!

Advantages of friction shifting:

1. fewer moving parts
2. fewer wear parts
3. infinitely adjustable tension setting
4. works under all conditions, in all environments
5. universal application works with all shifting systems
6. incredibly light weight!

Stop worrying about your finicky STI or Ergo levers. Give up the constant re-adjustment when the temperature changes.

These levers can be mounted on the top part of the downtube, in an ergonimically correct position, ideal for racers and touring cyclists alike!

No more weaving down the road while struggling to use shift levers mounted (where? OMG!!!) on the brake levers!

Easy to maintain? You bet! With only seven easily-disassembled parts, only a fixed gear could be simpler!

"Yes, but how much moolah am I gonna have to spend on these puppies?"

That's the best part! This advanced shifting system will actually cost you less than the most shifting systems you're using now!

FRICTION SHIFT LEVERS

You'll wonder why no one thought of them before.

Ask for them at your local bicycle retailer.

Campy is staffed by absolutely brilliant marketers. Watch hard-tension spring retrofit kits be sold next year (packaged with a "Red Spring" sticker) at a premium price.

ridiculous. glad i've got a set of chorus alloys for my next bike, a zanc cross.

vancouverdave rocks downtube shifters on a 531 steel frame he made himself, very tasty.

dave, thanks for the tensionometer, i played with it a bit last night and i can see it is going to take some time to learn how to use it properly.

Why not order a stiffer spring and have your levers re-built if you are silly enough to want a stiffer spring.
Cheers,

Are there distinct markers for right and left brifters? Also, are they backwards compatible with earlier versions of Record 10? Are they compatible with Chorus? Also, I'm wondering whether the markers are really magic.
