Hey folks;
I just wanted to give the link to my flickr set of pictures from a visit to the shop of Mr. Nagasawa in the past 2 days. I am also planning on posting a more complete report of the trip in however many entries it takes. The experience was in a word, amazing and the generosity and hospitality of Mr. Nagasawa and his family is almost beyond description. It will take a few days to gather my thoughts and write something that might come close to an adequate account of the experience, so please be patient and whet your appetites by perusing some photos. I included descriptions on just a few and will add more detail to these as well.

I'm also in the process of uploading about 8 minutes worth of video from my point and shoot camera into youtube. It takes a while for each one and I can't hang by the computer all day, so wait for all of these as well. Here's the first one just uploaded. My apologies in advance if the quality is not up to par; this was not a photojournalism trip! There seems to be some decrease in quality from the original to the uploaded version I've noticed with YT. Anyhoo, its fun stuff!

Is that silver, partially unwrapped road bike yours?

Looks beautiful.

I thought I read somewhere that there would be no more Nagasawa road bikes but that is clearly not the case.

There are no more orders or imports of Nagasawa road bikes. But if you go to the source, well, it appears Mr Nagasawa will graciously build a bike.

Thanks for the great pics.

When I got my Nagasawa last year, a pal facilitated the order,
and when he went to pick it up, he forgot his camera! I could have
reached across the pacific and slapped him... good thing he's a real pal.

actually, I'm not sure this is entirely true. My Japanese friend mentioned this in the phone call to set up the visit, and he said he didn't know where this rumor came from. Maybe the US distributor is saying no, but he says yes? Keep in mind the typical wait is 2 years. Going to the source helps, and is quite a bit more affordable, like try about $1900...oh, and you'll be forced to endure a night of drinking large quantities of Nagasawa's favorite sake, eating Korean BBQ, and shooting the ***** about all things cycling. :D

While likely difficult for most US customers, I think you can still get him to build you road or track frames. I'll try to elaborate on this in my longer posting.

Not mine, but it was beautiful, all wrapped and waiting to be sent to its new owner. It is actually a slight sloper, and coincidentally, so will mine be. I'll elaborate more on that in my full report.

Ahh, we spoke of this a little bit over dinner. I didn't want to be too direct in asking since his son was there. Didn't want to put him on the spot etc. Looks like this will be the case, but Nagasawa wasn't too specific on this point. More later.

I'm pretty sure that on the yellowjersey.org website is where the quote about nags no longer being available in road.

Sean,

Wow! Just flat out wow! The pictures are tremendous. I'm intrigued by that stack of damaged main frame triangles...did he give you any background on why/how they all ended up back there?

Now why didn't I think of doing this when we were in Japan last summer... :crap: :crap: :crap: :crap:

Is his shop still located near Osaka? I head for Tokyo next week, and might need to make a detour.....Thanks for any info/suggestions you can offer. :)

Those stacks of damaged frames are mostly the result of Keirin crashes. There were at least two piles of them that I found. It's significant that 2-4 of the total of around 15 frames coming out of his shop each month are repairs. Plenty of people are still using his frames for thier livelihoods on the track.
