It seems like most of the well-known Japanese frame-builders are known for the their work with steel (Nagasawa, etc.). Obviously this is a link to keirin racing. However, are there small builders who work with other materials like carbon or ti? Is there a Japanese equivalent to Bob Parlee or Craig Calfee? Just curious.

Toyo, the dudes who build Rivs production bikes, have been working on a carbon proto-type (http://blog.toyoframe.com/?eid=529087). They also had a blog post about the frame's tubes (http://blog.toyoframe.com/?eid=519032). I don't know if you'd put this in the same type of class as Parlee or Calfee though.

Makino. Try this:http://www.cc.rim.or.jp/~mackino/makino/catalog-model.htm

They do all materials now.
I prefer the steel Independence.
