Hi all,

I'm new here... so hello from NW Washington State! Tell me, please, who makes a good padded gloved? Fingerless and full fingered. I am increseing my riding now with commuting (30 mi round trip).

Thanks all.

Croqueted with more than one color is always a good look.

Fingerless: I'm super-cheap so I buy the least expensive natural color crochet back I can find, and they nearly all work well (for me). However, I have to say that the Specialized model is slightly better than the super-cheap Nashbar version.

Full Finger: Depends entirely on how low in temp you need to go. Winter's nearly over, so I'd forget about it until late in the year, unless you want to try to get something on sale and stash it for later use. I've been impressed by PI stuff and have been looking for the "half-lobster" deal they make, where the last two fingers are together and the others separate.

Good Luck

Welcome to the forum.
Louis

Congrats on commuting. I don't use gloves unless it's sweaty hot, (slippery bars), or really cold. I've used and like REI's brand of thinner, full-fingered gloves. They are pretty cheap to buy and usually on their clearance tables this time of year. Cheap is good, as gloves only last me about 6 months before they fall apart or get lost somewhere.

I've had good luck with Salsa Baja (http://www.salsacycles.com/gloves.html) gloves. The padding is the correct density and very durable. The terry cloth backing is nice. The low-key gray goes with virtually any kit, commuting gear, or bike.

i have to say, i try not to put too much pressure up front, but when i do, it's usually on the palm of my hand. the Specialized BG-gel glove works the best for me. I would recommend riding a couple of times, and finding out where you put the most pressure, then finding a glove that has padding at that specific spot.

One thing I do like about the BG's is that they take into consideration that pinky nerve. It's a little thing, but that's what counts right?

check it out - no glove, no love

I use the Trek crocheted fingerless gloves, they have nice padding that is good for my all-day rides. For full-fingered gloves, visit an REI if you can. They have a very good selection of national brand as well as their own brand of various weight of fingered gloves.

Spenco's Ironman series.Man, I tried some of the new ones (which probably are so new anymore but are much different than the old old ones from back in the day). Those things stained my hands black for the entire time I wore them plus they felt like they weighed a ton.

I've had success with the higher end Louis Garneau fingerless gloves. They sure vent well.

Based purely on principle, I would not use those even if Rapha gave them to me. I think I'm becoming a Rapha hater. At least with Assos the claim is that they work better. I guess paying for performance is OK. With Rapha it's a look or a style, feeling hip. No thank-you.

Hardcore commuters wear their gloves 24/7. Whatever you buy, wear them all day/night:

me too. I like the LG padded gel gloves. Not sure the model I have but they work pretty well. For colder weather, I use some cheap Performance thermal gloves. I used them down to under +20F, and my hands were ok. I think they are basically just inserts, but are nice because they are flexible and are a good place to wipe snot when I really have to.

Gloves and helmets are the two things I won't buy without trying them on, because they're such a personal thing. I had a pair of the Rapha crochet gloves and didn't get on with them - even without them stretching, the transition from the padded section to the non-padded section was too abrupt.

Fingerless I've got a pair of Cannondale LE Carbon - the leather is at least as nice as the Rapha ones, they have no padding (which suits me) and they fit great.

Full-finger I ride with either some Troy Lee Designs XC gloves (again no padding) with silk liners if it's cold, or Pearl Izumi Gavia (again, possibly with liner) if it's really filthy out. If I were spending more money on winter gloves I quite like the Gore line.

Pearl's White Line gloves work well and they're cheap.

+1 on what Louis said about Rapha.
