Following up on the "Campy wheel with Shimano Cassette" thread, this is the part Orin mentioned. I found it here (http://www.universalcycles.com/shopping/product_details.php?id=10840)

The site copy says:

Campagnolo 8/9/10 Shimano Compatible Freehubs

Converts ’99 and newer Campagnolo wheels for use with Shimano HG 8, 9, and 10 speed systems

Here's my question: How do I figure out if the hub is '99 and newer or not? It might be pre-'99 I'm not sure. Is there an easy way to tell?

do drop by to www.fine-nike.com (http://www.fine-nike.com) look through the articles there. With information on anything from getting the cheapest shoes, you'll find something that helps you save a lot of money.

If I'm not mistaken, in simple terms, the '99 and newer hubs have the oversize aluminum axle instead of the traditional 10mm steel axle. The left side bearing adjuster is an obvious external difference on the newer hub.

Thanks Guys, but is this applicable to up and down the Campy line, or just Record? I think my hubs may be Veloce, but I'm not sure, and they are not marked.

TIA

Veloce is different than Centaur and above. Even newer Cenatur hubs have now been downgraded to the Veloce level design. If you don't see the external bearing adjuster with the small socket head bolt on the left side, you need a different cassette body, like the one for Scirocco prebuilt wheel. See page 129 of the PDF catalog.

Seems to me that the hub should be dismantled to see what you've got.

You might be able to tell from the cassette lock ring, which is hub-specific for Campy.

Pre-1999 should use a 26mm thread diameter lock ring. Post 1999, should use a 27 mm.

I figured it out. I have the '99 and later hub. That means that the bi-sexual Campy freehub Orin mentioned will work for me.

Thanks again to all for the Collective Intelligence of the forum.
