Can you use a different bike that is already complete?

Alexi,

My first and only year on Team Navigators the tech's used Coke Can shims for our C40's for about a week as they hadn't received the proper shims for 28.0's.

I am not saying I recommend this but it has/can been/be done.

Mebe you can expedite shipping to overnight for the post you ordered? I do it all the time for people.

Good Luck.

Please tell the whole story. How could this happen? All of the sudden with no way out? There must be an interesting story behind this situation. Please tell it.

I bought a deda seatpost on ebay that was supposed to be a 27.2 but wouldn't fit. Never had a carbon seatpost before so had mixed feelings in the first place. Went to several bike shops to find out what was wrong (not measured to spec, etc.). One guy measured it with his electronic caliper and said 27.4. I can't say for sure that it is, but pm me if yoiu are interested.

I've been running a 26.8mm with shim in a MTB frame designed for a 27.0mm seatpost for the past 10 years without any problems. The bike has outlived 3 computers and has seen major offroad and winter miles. Shim it and ride while you search for a 27.4mm.

Disclaimer: I don't really want to say this because it may or may not reflect how I really feel about the issue, may or may not be good advice and I certainly don't want get sued. All that said...

My bike shop guy once heard from a maker of frames that use a 27.4 post that you could use a 27.2 if you didn't keep adjusting it.

One of my bikes that used a 27.4 came back from a repaint and the 27.4 no longer fit. We tried reaming the seat tube, but a 27.2 Dura-Ace fit fine and still does.

My other bike that uses a 27.4 has an American Classic 27.4 and it obviously works fine too.

Beer can shims are better than Coke can shims. I think Zipp published a study on it.
