I just wanted everyone to know that the beautiful red Mariposa road bike that is currently being auctioned on eBay is a scam. I know this because it's my bike and I wouldn't sell it for the ransom of Avarice himself. Item number: 230235896561

I've alerted eBay, Mike Barry knows about it, and we'll try to get it cleared up.

p.s. this is the red one on the flickr site. nice huh?

wow. so people go onto flickr, find pix of bikes and other stuff and then use those pix in fake auctions?

Why don't the cops sting him back and arrest him? Surely they could bid it up to where it's a felony. Just wondering why we don't stop this kind of stuff.

Oh crap! I guess I will have to release Avarice without a single payment!

Anyone has a cheap butterfly to sell? :D :D

..A..

PS

Nice bike Doug!

I wrote to eBay this morning using the proper protocol and this auction is not yet ended. Does anyone know how long it takes these folks to address such an issue? I would hate to see some bidder (there two bids) get scammed by this offering. I may have to send Dirt's people.

FWIW: I asked the seller if I could do a local pickup and if the bike was available for inperson inspection prior to sale. No answer as of yet.

I have an idea. Let's get in a bidding war. Will this get us in trouble with eBay? I mean my motive is simple: let's protect some innocent who doesn't know this is a scam. Bid high, bid often? And, no, I'm not sellin' the bike. :-)

It's gone. So much for our bidding war. If anyone else would like to auction one of my bikes, please let me know in advance. I can supply updated pictures. I think Achmed must have gotten to him. I placed a call earlier in the day. Thanks, Dirt. Callin'out!

BUMP for the scam warning. It would be great if this could reach whatever threshold is needed to move it from misdemeanor to felony for this scamming jerk.

Most folks interested in a Mariposa know enough about bikes and eBay to make this particular variation of the scam not likely to be successful.

How did the miscreant find the photos? Do you have the link to your bike collection posted elsewhere? No Forum user could do this, could they?
