I am involved in Fund raising for diabetes because my first cousin had it all her life (Type 1). She passed away last year due to complications. Type 2 is currently out of control in America due to obesity and lifestyle issues. The more publicity the better!! The Tour De Cure is the National bike fundraising event for diabetes; I will be riding in June.

I found it amazing that they won the 8 person team and the overall at RAAM last year. They posted a report over on Type 1 rider, including a rundown of their insulin therapy and eatimg. It was most interesting to see that they used more insulin on the bike than off.

The availibility of continuos glucose monitoring has been a major step in making this kind of performance possible.Im working on getting a CGMS for my new insulin pump.

One of my closest friends is a Type 1 Diabetic and has been since age 11. She is now 47.

She has done 4 1/2 IronMans and is now in training to do a full IronMan! Pretty amazing, if you ask me...

I believe she is trying to get sponsorship through Team Type 1 as well.
