Can any of you Portlandites recommend some nice hotels?? My wife and I will be spending a couple of nights in the city this summer on our way to another part of Oregon.

We heard that the Ace Hotel is cool and kind of fun and funky. Any other good ones to consider?

Thanks in advance,
Paul

We've stayed at two of the McMenamins hotels and enjoyed them both. The Edgefield is East of Portland and is a nice, interesting place. The second place is the White Eagle which is closer in (North part of town). It's smaller and funkier with a cool vibe. Both have great beer on the premises.

The Jupiter can get a little rowdy on weekends but the Doug Fir Lounge and restaurant are terrific. Why does Portland have so much cool stuff and Seattle sucks so bad?

Hotel Lucia is pretty cool. Nice art work throughout the hotel. Right across the street from the Benson. In downtown but walking distance to the Pearl. Perfect location, no need of a car.

If you don't stay at the hotel then find the micro-brew and have a Terminator Stout...Best in the world!

Jupiter is fun, but really it's just motel accommodations dressed in cheap hipster attire. But the ajoining restaurant/bar Doug Fir has amazing food so it's an overall win.

Thanks all for the suggestions. The Jupiter looks and sounds cool, but somewhat less then ideal for actually sleeping, not that that matters much! :p

I'll forward the choices to my SO, who will carefully scrutinize each hotel and then... undoubtedly pick the most luxurious and expensive!

I'm thinking the Heathman, deLuxe or Lucia might be good choices.

Check out the Hotel Vintage Plaza. It has a great restaurant downstairs also.

We stayed here and liked it. Rooms were small as is typical with older hotels with some history so we didn't mind it.

I worked in the restaurant at the Heathman for three years. It's as nice a place as you'll find. I've never felt such plush bedding. And the breakfast is good. For dinner, I would walk 200 yards up the street to Higgins. It's as nice a restaurant as you'll find anywhere in the country. If you want Portland hip, stay at the Ace. Either way, walk up to the Ace for the stumptown coffee.

Darren I'm almost 34. I need to slow down, and drink a lighter beer like Guinness.
