You already bought to fork. Slap that thing in there and ride it.

Or do the right thing and get a steel fork!

how else do you get experience with these things.
i'm keeping my eyes open for the perfect steel fork...
...maybe one will fall out of the sky...
and then i'll try that for a few thousand miles, too.
--but after a 'self imposed spending freeze'--
sometimes i have to put a lid on my enthusiasm...
...just to make sure i don't get too far ahead of myself...

I don't know how you'd measure it, dynamically, but you'll feel it - at least on the first ride or three. After that you might not.

This site http://www.kreuzotter.de/english/elenk.htm provides a trail vs. rake calculator. The esteemed Mr. Kirk makes a statement about target values for trail on his web site: http://www.kirkframeworks.com/Fitting.htm

I went in the opposite direction on my Legend Ti; a 43mm Ouzo Pro replaced a very stiff, 41mm Alpha Q. The ride was softened and the handling seemed to speed up a bit, consistent with slightly less trail.

Hope that helps -

TimD -- Just curious, what was rake was specified for your Legend? Do you know the HTA on you bike?

As for info on the rake/trail issue...another smart cookie (named TK) has posted this info about trail and its effects (http://spectrum-cycles.com/612.htm) on his website.

I dropped 3mm of rake changing forks on an old Duende. I did notice a slight mellowing in the steering...not much, but definitely some....

Aw jeez.
If it's what you want, it's fine.
The F3 is also longer by about 2mm than the F2 fork it was originally designed to use. The differences are small and incremental.
You possibly bought the fork at a discount out of curiosity.
Satisfy the curiosity.
Ride it.
The difference is there, but it is small. If you don't like it, change it back.
You might also find that you would ideally want a firmer or softer fork.
In that case, you could order another F3 and choose both the offset (sometimes formerly known as rake) and the firmness level.
Enjoy, and pay attention to what you feel.
Part of the enjoyment of cycling, at least for me, has been finding out what I like, and not simply accepting what someone tells me is the best. That's heresy, and I'm a heretic. If you feel the same way, I'd consider you a heretic as well.
I'd love to hear your riding impressions after you try the new fork for a while.
