Now neither TaxCut nor TurboTax support Windows 98, so I am investigating options.
If you have used TaxAct in the past, how do you like it? (It still supports Win 95 and 98, for now).
TIA
Louis
PS One of my other options is to bite the bullet and buy a new (& inexpensive) laptop. If so, then I'll have to decide between Vista and XP...

I'm not a tax lawyer, or a tax accountant, or a mathematician, and my taxes are not particularly complicated (or rather, I haven't made them particularly complicated) but I've used taxact for several years, and it seems to do a fine job.
For what it's worth....

I used tax act last year for the first time and it was pretty easy. I got a decent return that was less than in the past as I had reduced my witholding the year before. This was completely expected.
I reduced the witholding again to put more money in my pocket each week. I started Tax Act again this year but couldn't figure out what to do about a few hundred dollars we had paid a nanny that was subject to domestic employee taxes. That aside, the software showed a projected return up to that point about half of what it was last year, basically as I expected it would be with the lower witholding. I realized I was over my head with the nanny tax thing so I sent all my stuff to my accountant to complete.
He completed the forms in three days with a return that was double what I had come up with on Tax Act and even higher than what I got from Tax Act last year. I'm trying not to think to hard about how much cash I left on the table last year in order to save the $80 prep fee.
PM for the accountant's name. He's in RI but does Mass returns as well. Reasonable fees.

Thanks for the feedback, folks, (except for Jason - will your accountant do them for $20? :p ). I think I'll give TaxAct a shot. It's just $20, so if it doesn't work out I can always try another option.

I used the free version of TaxAct...the user interface is pretty clunky, but it works and there was no fee for e-filing. I got my refund in 8 days.
