Does anyone know whether any framebuilder makes a custom steel lugged mountain bike?

I had a Bridgstone MB-3 many years ago and loved the look of the lugs. However, I traded it in for the MB-Zip back then and have not seen the lugged MTN bike since.

Other than the cost of making the different lugs, are there any serious downside to using lugs for mountain bikes?

Henry James and Curt Pacenti sell lugsets and bottom brackets for off road frame building so there must be a few custom builders out there. I think Waterford still offers a lugged mountain bike frame as well. Lugged mountain bikes might be a little heavier than TIG welded frames but should be as strong.

I too believe Pacenti makes mt bike lugs.
