Apparently, he was in a breakaway in the 2nd stage in Tirreno Adriatico. He had prime positioning when the winning attack went, but suffered from mechanical problems, so he wasn't able to reach the winning members. So he took his frustration out on the bike.

I read that on replay it was in fact Ricco who deviated from his line, not Gerd. Made himself look like a 3 y.o. having a tanty IMHO.

It's comforting to see Ricco's displays and his prima donna displays. It reminds me of Italian cycling when I started following the sport in the mid 80s, when it seemed the Italian peloton was full of prima donnas who cried whenever they had to ride outside Italy or climb anything steeper than their gregarios could push them over.
