Is Nick okay with you showing those pix of his tubes? The impression I got from talking with him last month was that he wasn't in a hurry to launch the new project.

Jus' sayin'.

The frame pictured is not mine unfortunately, it's painted a House of Color translucent Tangerine and let me tell you, absolutely show stopping in the sunlight.

That downtube makes the R3 d-tube look sooo wimpy..
Fantastic stuff happening here friends.

First, thanks for the bike-related thread - I appreciate it.

I appreciate too Crumpton's reputation for carbon and that the tubes are meant to have asymmetric profiles. It does appear (maybe just the photo perspective or tube-end effect) that there's quite a bit of irregularity in the tube thickness profiles in some of the photos. What should I think?

Thanks.

Those are total proto tubes and one has even been stress tested to failure, so don't read too much into the end shots.
The camera angles are all wacked and I mainly was trying to give you an idea of the exterior shape and diameters b/c in person they are mind blowingly rad( if you are into that sorta thing)

The flat side is designed to go which way on the DT? I have noted a lot of frames with flat underbellies lately and wondered why - does not seem aero.

What's the general thought from Nick. Build stiffer bikes? Particular purpose? Is round not getting him something?

i am ready. about to bust. will unveil the frames in late april. They won’t appeal to everyone but neither does the current work. they will co-exist in harmony!

it was great to meet David Lee and i hope to catch their act at Jovitas tonight. Or the Thursday night crits?? which one?

james, what you see is not the actual tube wall thickness but rather excess material that is trunked down in the mold. if you look at the side view you can see the angle.

Dude! April? They're supposed to appear in November so we have time to order and then ride them in the spring. Trust me, getting the SL in the chill of September was painful.

Could you answer the question about the direction of the DT flat side? I need to plan a paint scheme in case this one appeals to me.

I was speaking to James Weinberger at the bike show. He's the repair guru at Calfee. He said the majority of the CF frames that come in or repairs are shaped, non-round tubes. He said they were weaker and more prone to failure from impact than the round ones.

Thoughts?

Those bikes are hot, really sweet paint job on the first one. Dave, it's time to rake the lawn. I think you have fescue growing, a good grass. Please put down some perennial rye with some fertilizer now. I love an 80% Kentucky Blue for a lawn with an 20% mix of Perennial Rye, don't put down Kentucky Blue (it will compete with the fescue) the rye is very user-friendly (one blade grows up and that's it, leaving the fescue to spread as it wants/needs to). Then in late April we can do the weed-n-feed. PM me for lawn questions atmo.

I'm going to be annoying and postulate that there are simply more carbon frames out there that use shaped tubes, period. Which would explain why the majority of repairs are on shaped tubes, n'est pas?

But I'll stick with round tubes, mostly, thank you very much.
